Our Prayer for Financial Help.

"Dear Lord, help me to push aside my pride, because this is the hardest part for me .... asking.  Convict me Lord of any negativity, doubts, and actions that may hinder our family's healing.  We cannot do this alone. Remind me, Lord what our purpose is here on earth. Caleb and I are standing firm on your Word. We are believing that no matter the circumstance or outcome, that you will never fail us. Remind me daily through your children, Your Word, family, and all that we have is a blessing and to never take for granted your blessings. Life alone is the most important blessing. In Jesus name I pray, Amen."

Our Story

Around 6:20AM on January 9th, 2021 my husband Caleb got into a terrible car accident on his way to work. He’s alive. He’s a miracle. However, he took a beating. I don't have many details at this moment. I do know that it was black ice.

I received a call from a lady at 6:24AM. “Is this Mrs. Reeves? Hey... your husband just got into an accident. He’s okay, but ambulance is on their way to check him out. My heart dropped. Suddenly, breathing in felt so heavy to the point I felt like coughing when exhaling. “Where is he?” She said “I-385 South. I hung up, got into my frozen-over car and just drove until I saw flashing lights. The traffic was back up terribly. There was 6+ police cars, a fire truck, tow trucks, and 2 ambulance that I could recall. I put my hazards on and recklessly drove into the grass margin (after judging the margin was clear from involved cars). I approached the officers who were standing near exit 31 looking over the guardrail. Yes…. Guardrail.

Officer: “Who are you looking for, ma’am?”

Me: “My husband. He just got into an accident. I can’t find his truck! Am I at the wrong accident?

Officer: Was he driving this red Chevy?”

Me:  (Had to take a few glances in the dark to confirm it was not him). “No, red Ford F-150 with a cross sticker with a blueline going through it.”

Officer: “Okay, ma’am, his truck is over on the highway near the barrier walls. We were called to 2 accidents in the same area. He has already been taken to the hospital.”

Me: “Do you know which hospital?”

The officer gave me just the information I needed. I got in my car, got on the phone trying to reach the ER department while flying down the highway myself. After countless call drops and transfers, I finally got through AFTER arriving to the hospital. I knew it would be nearly impossible to get through via phone/in-person due to COVID-19 restrictions. Blatantly honest here, I understand Covid is dangerous and I am not exempt from the rules…. However, at that moment, covid was the least of my concerns after this past year. What could possibly come against me than death itself? We do not have children; therefore, I will go whatever links to get to my husband.

When I finally arrived to the hospital, I took a long deep breath and tried calling the hospital again to get updated information as to his whereabouts. Did not get the response I wanted, so as any agitated person, I became pushy and demanded to speak with someone. Spoke with supervisor (got his name) and the assigned doctor which later ended up not being his doctor. Still not getting though and waiting for callbacks, I began the next phase: calling immediate family. I reached out to his parents Sue and Dwight. Then my mother, and then his lieutenant.

Caleb was waiting in the ER room for over half the day and finally got admitted to stay around 5:00PM. They did begin giving him morphine due to the extreme pain he was in. After CT scans, MRI, and x-ray …. The doctor determined that his L2 (lumbar) is fractured and he has a hematoma (pressure buildup from impact) pressing in his spine. How did I find out about this? Well, through the patient himself. I finally got to FaceTime him. My heart dropped. My husband, my best friend hooked up, blood all over his face, and a neck brace (no neck injuries). I’m sure you could imagine how I felt at that moment. A feeling no different from sky diving with no protective gear. Hollow. Pitted. Confusion. 3-Dimensional.

The not-so good news:

His 1999 Red F150 is totaled, his baby. His recovery will be a long road. The financial road to recovery will once again, be a long one… as, we just paid off my car a week before the accident as well as the hospital visits and surgeries I just had. The first accident I walked up on involving the guardrail, the gentleman in the red chevy died at the scene, the very scene where I stood thinking my husband was down there.

The good news.

He is alive with all parts intact.
My mother and in-laws came the very moment they received the call. If it was not for The Heavenly Father’s intervention, my husband would have left the world in the most brutal way – impact from the front, side, and back. Not to mention, the other car beside him blew up into flames. Those people made it out alive-no injuries.  If it was not for law enforcement at the scene, I would have never known who to contact. Not one medical personnel called to notify me except the ER pharmacy. Could you imagine getting a call from the ER pharmacy wondering why you are getting it? “You silly goose, my husband is at work, not the ER??” impression. Off-guard much? I am also extremely thankful for the random lady who took the time to check on my husband the moment the accident happened. She herself was driving to work and made that terrible call to a stranger that my husband has been involved in an accident. Turns out, she herself was in law enforcement as well. I called her later that day to thank her and update her. I also made sure to highlight what made her truly special…. Her heart, as she could have kept on driving.
Caleb will not have to have surgery as discussed previously. They will treat him using a brace first to see how he heals.

I still do not know all of the details about this accident. I will say that black ice is brutal and like Covid, it does not discriminate no matter how careful you are. When my husband is ready, we will have a detailed conversation about how the wreck happened. As of right now, he is hurting and the moments I talk to him, he is in and out due to his treatment. He will be in the hospital a few more days and let me just say, I am ready for him to be home. I am extremely excited and overjoyed that I will have the pleasure of giving him the BEST care he will ever receive! I am going to give him a bell and I will be at his service! As many of you know, I kicked off Noble and Anchor back in December, which means I can stay home and work. The Lord’s timing is perfect. I knew. He knew. Yes, He knew indeed that my husband would need me. He is my priority. I will learn to balance the workload while placing him first and taking precautions.

God will never abandon you. Remember that He is present in all circumstances. He is with you through the fire, a totaled car, the hospital room, the lonely, quiet room, and all in between.  If you choose Him, you will pull through.

My friends, God is up to something big. Our eyes are open, ears are listening, and hearts are stirring.  As I have said, He continues to write this family’s story and someday, I will write that book. I am believing that He is rising us up to the next level for his purpose. I end tonight with this. I am ecstatic. Because, victory is within reach. We will be victorious.
