On an otherwise ordinary family vacation in Mexico, tragedy struck the Hooker family when their son, Cale, faced a devastating accident.
On the evening of Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Cale suffered severe head trauma—a 3-inch gash to his upper forehead, a 6-inch vertical skull fracture displaced over both eyes, a fracture below the right eye, a grade 3 concussion, and internal bleeding (hematoma) between his skull and brain.
Cale underwent a grueling 6-hour emergency craniotomy surgery at a private hospital in Mexico and now remains under the vigilant care of neurologists. His journey toward recovery has only just begun, as he faces a long road ahead.
As soon as he is medically cleared for travel, Cale will be flown back to Vancouver, Canada, via air ambulance.
Throughout this harrowing ordeal, Cale’s family has stood by his side, providing unwavering love and support. However, the financial burden of Cale’s growing medical expenses in Mexico, the cost of the air ambulance to bring him home, and the anticipated expenses for his continued care and rehabilitation in Canada weigh heavily on the family. Additionally, the Hooker family is pursuing legal action and accountability against those responsible for this senseless assault, extortion, and forced confinement.
Cale, a hardworking, polite, and kind young man is passionate about skiing and staying fit. He is turning 21 years young this coming May 23rd.
Cale was excited to start a new construction job in May, following his winter work at a local ski hill and what was supposed to be a well earned vacation in Mexico. Cale’s aspirations extend beyond construction as he was exploring a career as a fireman. He hopes to regain his health to one day return to work.
As we navigate this uncertain path, there are many unknown risks associated with Cale’s health and recovery. The extent and possible long-term effects of this life-altering injury remain unclear. What we do know is that Cale’s resilience and determination, coupled with the support of friends, family, and compassionate individuals like you, will play a crucial role in shaping his future.
