Help buy a car for a refugee in Vermont
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah. Through my volunteer work with the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network, I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie,* an asylum seeker from East Africa now living in rural Vermont. He fled his native country because he faced persecution and extreme violence. If he returns, his life will be in grave danger. He has two young children in Uganda who he misses terribly and hopes to someday bring to the U.S.
Can you make a donation to help get Eddie a car so he can navigate his new life in Vermont?
Eddie is on the cusp of getting his work permit. He is extremely eager to begin earning money to support his children and himself. But living in rural Vermont without a car is challenging to say the least. It really limits his housing, work, and social opportunities. Right now he lives in a small motel room that has been graciously provided by the motel owner, but he cannot live in a motel room forever and a car would open up the world to this striving young man.
I have talked about the hardship Eddie faced, but that is not what defines him. He is a lovely person - sweet, thoughtful, and intelligent. He is a devoted father. He is learning to play the guitar. He can fix anything and is a good cook. If given the chance, he will make a fabulous U.S. citizen.
If you could please help in any amount, Eddie and I would be eternally grateful.
Any funds raised above the cost of the car will go to funding future car purchases for asylum seekers through the Central Vermont Refugee Action Network.
