Hello Everyone.
I never thought I would do this but due to the limited response to restaurant workers’ plight, I’m putting out a request to help take care of our 43 desperately in-need employees.
This is not for the future. This is for right now.
Rent is due for many of our employees in 12 days - most if not all of which operate paycheck to paycheck - and because their inability to work or reduced hours, nearly all are at risk.
We have been doing everything we can to pivot the business and keep providing pay for our bakers, drivers, porters, packers and office staff, all of which are in harms way but feel the same responsibility I do to take care of our accounts and the people of this city during these fragile times. If we close, a lot of other food businesses will most likely be forced to close as well.
But as a wholesaler, our sales do not directly translate to cash in the bank. We operate with 30 day payment terms - accounts have 30 days to pay from when they receive their bread - but we can no longer a.) expect payment from the accounts we’ve provided bread for in the last month that have shut down (about 65% of our 140 accounts are now closed) and b.) take care of employees who cannot work due to an at-risk person in their household, inability to come in themselves or simply their dramatic loss of hours.
These are the people who for the last 5 years have been in here at 130am working while you sleep so that you can enjoy products from the 140 restaurants we supply and our stand at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market. Their difficult lifestyle provides for yours. And they need your help right now.
We are aiming for $50,000 to help remove the possibility of anyone losing their homes or not being able to eat during these complicated times.
These funds will go to our employees in need for things like rent, groceries, medical supplies, elderly care, child care, etc.
We will continue to operate the bakery as long as we safely can, but this insurance helps offer comfort and hope to those who are working in the trenches right now along with those who cannot work due to safety concerns.
