Our beautiful Nan and Pop have been in love with Hawaii for as long as we can remember. So, as a family we decided to gift them a trip of a lifetime.
The trip started off brilliantly with both Nan and Pop being able to experience all the beauty that the island had to offer. Unfortunately on June 5 things took a really drastic turn for the worse. During that days activities Nan was feeling unwell, so she decided to go to her hotel room and try to recoup before meeting up with the group later on. It was in her hotel room that afternoon with Pop, that she suffered a heart attack. Had it not been for Amber, a guest who happened to present at the right time immediately performed CPR to revive her, our Nan may not be here today. Amber truly was our family’s guardian angel that day and we will always be indebted to her for her selfless act.
Our Nan was admitted to Straub hospital ICU unit before being transferred to critical ward. She seemed to be getting better and stronger with each day, however on her 5th day on critical care she succumbed to some of the complications of her CPR, fluid had quickly built in her lungs and she had to be transferred back to ICU. She is currently still in ICU where she is recovering. Although recovery is slow, we are grateful that our Nan is still with us and are thankful for all the people who have worked tirelessly to help her recover.
Our Nan and Pop were under the impression that their travel insurance would cover any medical costs should something go wrong. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to them their travel insurance has been declined. We are currently exploring legal options to get this reversed. We have decided not to tell them about this as we don't want to add anymore stress to them during such a trying time.
As it stands the medical costs associated with Nan's hospital stay continues to rise daily. It is roughly in the amount of $500,000USD . We are also exploring the option of having her fly home via air ambulance as we believe that being on her home soil closer to family and friends will be good for her overall spirit and recovery .
We are coming to you as a family to ask for help. Our Nan is the backbone of our family and we want to bring her home. We have setup an account to raise money to ease our grandparents financial burden.
