Help Bring this GOLD MEDAL winning garden to Amersham Hospital – Your support can make it bloom
Debuting at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2025, the Room to Breathe Hospital Garden is more than a showcase—it’s a story of friendship, healing, and hope.
After its debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the Room to Breathe garden will find a permanent home at Amersham Hospital, transforming a neglected courtyard into a peaceful sanctuary for patients, families, and NHS staff.
Created by local Buckinghamshire Garden Designers and longtime friends Catherine Gibbon and Jen Donnelly, this deeply personal garden will have a lasting legacy beyond Chelsea. After the show, Room to Breathe Garden will be permanently relocated to Amersham Hospital -transforming a neglected courtyard into a calming sanctuary for patients, families and NHS staff.
The Garden Legacy – Reimagined at Amersham Hospital
Jen and Catherine volunteer at the hospital, helping to rejuvenate outdoor spaces in well being gardens. They know first-hand how valuable green spaces are in healthcare environments.
The Room to Breathe Garden will be reimagined into a larger garden space, bringing new life to an unkempt courtyard. This enduring legacy will continue to provide comfort and well-being for patients, caregivers, and staff for years to come.
Room to Breathe – Inspired by Love and Care
This garden was born from personal experience. When Jen’s son underwent brain surgery at the age of four, she spent long hours in sterile hospital corridors, with nowhere to escape while waiting for news. That experience showed her just how vital access to nature is within hospital settings.
Locally Designed, Community-Supported
This project is being brought to life thanks to Bucks-based businesses and volunteers:
- Tendercare Nurseries, Denham – donating all plants used in the Chelsea Flower Show garden.
- The Landscape Group – landscaper for the show garden build, donating time and expertise.
- Rooftop Developments – specialists in loft conversions and extensions - help building the show garden, donating time and expertise.
- Lighting Outdoor Spaces– enhancing the garden with garden lighting and calming water feature.
- S-Chelate Plant Nutrition – plants grow up to 40% stronger with this environmentally-friendly fertilizer—proudly made in the UK.
- OSMO UK – experts in oils for interior and exterior wood care.
