To say it’s been a tough 3 ½ years for this family is a profound understatement.
In 2018, Peg Bailey and her son, Brian Bailey, lost their homes, all of their possessions, and a successful business due to the deadly Camp Fire that raged through Paradise, California.
After the fire, the rebuilding began. Brian became the primary custodial parent of his son, William, and moved back to Paradise. Brian and Peggy started a business together to help their local mountain communities become more fire resilient by investing in the appropriate heavy equipment and tools for fire abatement work.
On August 5, 2021, while on vacation in Texas with his son, Brian sustained a life changing injury, fracturing five vertebrae in his neck and upper back. Brian was rushed to South Austin Medical Center where he underwent a tedious and brutal eight hour surgery. Miraculously, he survived and is not paralyzed. As of August 18, 2021, Brian is still at South Austin Medical Center.
At this time, we know Brian will require medical transport back to California, in-patient treatment for 8 to 12 month at a specialized care facility, and, most likely, another surgery. Brian will also need to see multiple medical professionals who specialize in spinal injuries. Brian’s current medical staff in Texas estimates that Brian will require approximately 24-36 months of healing and various treatments.
Brian and Peg risked it all on this new business. They invested in heavy equipment, multiple trucks, trailers, licenses, hand tools, an equipment yard, and fire abatement tools. Losing the ability to work for even a year could mean the loss of the business, as well as defaulting on multiple loans.
Any amount of financial support that can be provided at this difficult time will ease some of this financial pressure and greatly aid in Brian’s recovery. Ultimately, as family and friends, we want Brian to be able to focus his efforts on his healing and full recovery.
Your contributions to this Go Fund Me will be used for Peg and Brian’s expenses in Texas, their return to California, as a supplement to Brian’s medical insurance and medical expenses not covered by insurance, and will assist in Brian and William’s living and personal expenses while Brian is unable to work.
