Help Bob Sirko Wake From Anoxic Brain Injury

Donation protected
On Thursday - February 4, 2021, Bob Sirko and his wife Wendy were busy packing their Jeep for a 13 week move to Massachusetts.  Wendy had accepted a traveling nurse position near Boston and the couple could not have been more excited about the new adventure they were about to embark on.  About an hour before they were to hit the road, Bob grabbed his chest and called for Wendy.  He proceeded to tell her that he thinks he is dying.  Bob fell back on his bed and went into cardiac arrest.  Wendy and their son Ryan worked tirelessly administering CPR till the first responders arrived.  For more than 90 minutes paramedics worked to resuscitate Bob.  Once stable enough to be moved, Bob was transported to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

The initial cardiac arrest lasted many minutes.  Because of this, Bob suffered an anoxic brain injury.  Anoxic brain injuries are caused by a complete lack of oxygen being provided to the brain, which results in the death of brain cells after approximately four minutes of oxygen deprivation. Though Bob's heart, body and organs are now functioning strong and normal, he is dependent on a ventilator for oxygen and remains in a minimally conscious state.  On the bright side, there are many signs that Bob is waking up.  We have seen movement in his legs, hands, shoulders and yesterday he raised his head twice.  Wendy has been recorded giving him simple commands like, open and close your mouth, look at me.....and he complies.

Bob will need significant long-term acute cognitive and physical therapy to help give him a fighting chance for his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family. The kind of intense therapy Bob needs is only available at a few centers across the country like TIRR Memorial in Texas, Kessler in NJ and Moss Rehab in PA.  These centers specialize in recovery for people suffering from severe disorders of consciousness due to lack of oxygen to the brain, like Bob. Unfortunately, health insurance only covers so much and every second counts.  Transportation via air ambulance will be needed.   Lift off in the air ambulance starts at $18,000 - $50,000.

Another issue has risen....Due to Wendy resigning from her position as an RN at a local Michigan hospital to take on the travelling nurse opportunity,  she is now unemployed.  Bills are starting to pile up quickly as she works tirelessly to seek out treatment options for Bob and look for new employment.   Urgent help is needed.

What About Bob:

Bob is 68 years old.  He is a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Bob loves to spend time in the pool with his grandchildren and take weekend excursions with his wife, Wendy.  On most days Bob can be found in his garage working on his Jeep.

Bob's family has been fighting from the start to get him the best care possible.  Please help to give Bob a fighting chance and the care he needs to get back to doing the things he loves and Wendy the support she needs to bring that to fruition.

Most importantly, we ask that you join us in lifting Bob, Wendy and the entire family in prayer.  We believe in miracles.  WAKE UP BOB!
