Help Blackjack Recover at UC Davis

Hi Horse Lovers and Endurance Family,

I'm setting up this Go Fund Me page to help Dean Moon. Dean is a long time endurance rider and ride camp friend.

His lovely Rocky Mountain horse Blackjack was lost during the Cache Creek Ridge Ride for seven days. Many volunteers searched daily for Blackjack when finally, on the 7th day Hal Hall spotted Blackjack at the bottom of a very steep canyon. He had gotten trapped in some thick brush and was hung up by his saddle. He suffered some deep gashes on his side that were infested with flies. We are all grateful for those involved in the effort to both find and get Blackjack back to safety.

Volunteer Rachel Shackleford rushed him by trailer to UC Davis for emergency treatment. A big shout out and thank you to Chuck Stalley, Hal Hall, Bill Gore, Mark Scherman, Melissa Montgomery, Susannah Jones, Rachel Shackleford and the many others that didn't give up searching.

Blackjack is currently doing well considering the damage he suffered to his system as a result of going so long without food or water. He is now eating and drinking on his own and is looking much better. He is however suffering from a case of laminitis from the stress of his ordeal. As you can imagine the care he is receiving at UC Davis is fantastic, but comes at a cost. Blackjack will need to continue to recover at UC Davis for approximently two more weeks until the laminitis is under control. Please help in any way you can to relieve some of the financial stress that this ordeal has placed on Dean and his family.

The money raised will go directly towards Blackjack's vet bill.
