Help Billy see again!

Donation protected
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Billy's story today.

Sadly during lockdown Billy totally lost his eyesight & went blind.

He previously had a cataract on one of his eyes but had always been able to manage okay.

One day he woke up and everything was dark. He couldn't see anything at all. He broke down, crying, in shock and horror at the realisation that his sight had gone.

Unfortunately, as this happened during lockdown nobody could come out to see or help him. No operations have been taking place.

We rang the hospital, his doctor, the blind society and anybody we thought could help but they all reiterated that nothing could be done until after lockdown.

Now that some measures have been eased we have found out that there is a massive back log of patients waiting for the same operation.

As it stands, he will have to wait a whole year before he can have an operation on the NHS to restore some of his vision.

He had an appointment for June which got cancelled until September and subsequently got changed to January 2021. That's just to be seen to get onto a waiting list!

He had pinned all his hopes on being able to see after lockdown.

The thought that this was temporary has got him through this far but knowing he has another year to endure has sent him over the edge.

He's spiralled into depression. His partner and children live in fear of him falling down the stairs, walking into things or deliberately harming himself.. Their house isn't set up for a blind person.

Billy can no longer see his phone, his family or young grandchildren or even watch television. Things we all take for granted. Radio has become a lifeline.

Billy loves football, after his family, Manchester City are his life and not being able to see them play is devastating to him.

We are trying to raise enough money to have one eye operated on privately. To give Billy a lifeline.

Believe me, we have done our best to get him seen quicker on the NHS, we ring his consultants secretary every other day to plead his case!

A cataract operation is a very quick procedure, usually taking less than half an hour. It has a high rate of success. Many people have told us it was the best thing they ever did.

I know things are tight for everybody right now but if you could spare just a few pounds to help us raise the £3000 we need to have the operation done as soon as possible, that would be wonderful.

You always hear people say that if they'd known how bad the situation was they would of helped. Usually after the worst has happened.

This is an opportunity for anybody who would like to make a difference to Billy's life to do so by donating.

Many thanks.
