Help Bill recover from massive stroke, mahalo

Donation protected
In one moment, life changed for the Nahaleas.

On October 17, 2020 Bill woke up and started the day with his normal routine, a shopping trip for Pacific Ohana Cafe supplies. Gloria happened to have a free morning so she decided to join him on the errand. Bill was driving on the freeway when he suddenly began to experience a stroke, leaving Gloria to navigate the horrific task of trying to get control of the car as Bill was suddenly incapacitated. She was able to veer their van into stationary objects to get the car to slow down to a stop while Bill was suffering through the stroke.  She called 911 and Bill was transported by an aid car to Tacoma General Hospital.

Bill suffered a serious stroke which landed him in the Tacoma General emergency room where doctors  immediately placed him in an induced coma.  He suffered from a brain bleed stroke and damage to the right side of his body.

For the next two weeks, Bill fought for his life, attached to a ventilator and tubes providing medicine to keep alive. The medical team was remarkable and the outpouring of prayers, love and support from well-wishing family, friends and Hawaiian community has helped Bill to move from ER to ICU and now to an In Patient Rehabilitation Hospital for intensive therapy.

Bill has Aphasia and no feelings on his right side of his body and is unable to walk. In the coming weeks his days will be full of Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy appointments and rest as he strives for a complete recovery.

The goal for this GoFundMe is to raise money to handle things such as meal delivery services and day-to-day expenses that will allow Gloria to focus on Bill through these challenging times. The Nahaleas have a long road ahead of them and the medical bills will quickly add up so all donations will assist them with daily life, medical bills and recovery therapy designed to help Bill regain his ability to speak, to stand, to have use of his right side, and to walk. Contributions may also help with unforeseen expenses relating to preparing their home to be wheelchair accessible.

Please help support Bill as he fights the biggest battle of his life. If you are able, donations of any size are most appreciated (and please help us spread the word by sharing this GoFundMe campaign).

Thank you in advance for your contributions and good thoughts for Bill’s complete recovery.
