Help Bert in his fight against brain cancer

On behalf of Bert’s family, I’m fundraising for my grandfather, Albert (Bert) Fontaine. He recently received a diagnosis of a brain tumor, suspicious of a high grade tumor (malignancy). He presented to the St. Boniface Emergency Department on December 7 and a CT scan showed a large brain tumor in his left frontal lobe. An MRI confirmed the CT findings. If the tumor is not removed, the tumor will progress rapidly.

This type of brain tumor is treated by surgery (craniotomy). As a family, we consulted with the Section of Neurosurgery at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. The neurosurgeons there have never performed this type of surgery on an octogenarian, someone in his age category (84YO). As a family, we have decided to seek treatment for him in the States. We consulted virtually with a neurosurgeon in New York who has experience in treating octogenarians. This comes at a significant financial cost. The neurosurgeon has agreed to treat him and perform surgery during the second week of January. Post-surgery, Bert must remain in the States for approximately 2 to 3 weeks before returning home.

His wife will accompany him to the States along with his son and daughter, so I’ve started this GO FUND ME page to help offset costs for them. Your generosity and contributions will be used towards accommodations, food, transportation and incidentals while in the States. Any amount big or small will make a huge difference and will be greatly appreciated.
