Help Bacon Fight For Her Life

Donation protected
Bacon is a sweet and loving Chihuahua mix that came to me from the local shelter in 2015 when she was a six-month old puppy.  The first steps of her life began with struggles, she displayed telltale signs of abuse, such as overtly timid, frightened at the smallest sound, and long periods of being withdrawn.  I thought then that I was rescuing her, but it was she who came to rescue me. Nine years ago, in 2010, I was diagnosed with many rare conditions:  fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, ataxia, atrial fib, tachycardia, dysautonomia, celiac, nutrition disorder, iron deficiency anemia (required infusion treatments), SPS (Stiff Person Syndrome), IBS, and PTSD (from 25 years of domestic abuse).  My health has declined over the recent years, and since March of 2019, I have not been able to eat any food and have been on TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition), where nutrients fluids are fed through a catheter in the vein directly near the heart, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract to keep me alive.  Bacon has been my constant companion, a care taker, as I am homebound and bedridden on my worst days.  She always lays down beside me and follows me wherever I am. In April of 2018, Bacon developed a rare condition of Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP), in which she has no platelets in her blood, resulted in bleeding of her teeth, ears and hemorrhaging.  She was rushed to the emergency and hospitalized for three days at the VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Hospital.  The doctor performed three blood transfusions in order to save her, costing several thousand dollars.  Since then, she needs monthly follow-up appointments with specialist for blood tests and requires daily immunosuppressant medications to maintain her platelets blood level and keep her alive that cost around $400-$500 a month.  She also has setbacks, which require further treatment with additional costs.  She is unable to receive vaccinations due to her illness and has a low immune system due to her medications, so she cannot go out and play like normal dogs.  Despite her illness, she always comforts me with her unconditional love and never complains. She is an important part of my life.  I know what it is like being sick, so my heart aches seeing her suffering.  I would take the illness from her, if I could.  I care for her with several doses of medicine daily, along with my own multiple medications.  My illnesses qualified me for social security disability, but that is not enough for monthly expenses of the necessities, so it has been extremely challenging for me to cover Bacon's medical bills.  I am writing to humbly ask for your heart of hearts to help Bacon with her on-going treatments.  From the bottom of my heart, I am deeply grateful to you for reading our story and for any amount  of donation. With sincere and warmest regards, Regina & Bacon
