MADDOX UPDATES: MONDAY 10/14/2019 Sam and Matt had to rush Maddox to the Rady’s. They took him right back for an MRI. The results showed that the HLH has come back and is attacking his central nerve system which effects his sight, balance and speech. Tomorrow we start the first round of chemo to contain the HLH. We have already started looking for donor to see if there is a perfect match for him. I’m calling/begging for all angels to please keep watch over our sweet, amazing little Maddox and asking for as many prayers as we can get as we start the fight for his life for the second time. I will update again once we find out more from the doctors.
TUESDAY 10/15/2019 around 5am, there was complications with Maddox. His right side his face was dropping and he lost most of his movement in his left arm. A team full of doctors rushed in to assist him. They were able to rule out a stroke. We did a CT scan and it ruled out any bleeding or swelling to the head/Brain. They said it was possibly the HLH effecting him. We are back in the ICU where they have him under 24/7 watch. He was able to tell us his head hurt so we now know where the pain is coming from. As of now he is asleep and awaiting his first round of spinal chemo. This will help get rid of the lesions on his brain and get the white blood cells out of his spinal fluid. They say once this is started patients show improvement almost instantly. Please help me pray for my strong young guy. As of
TODAY 10/16/19, Maddox has not shown any improvement yet. Over night he started have seizures which they are working on getting under control. He isn’t responding to much. But this is expected with the nerve system type HLH. They said it should take a couple days after the first chemo treatment to start showing improvement. We are doing a EKG and MRI as we speak. Please, please pray for our little guy. I’ll keep posting as more info comes out way. These are updates from his parents and even though they have not asked, I am re activity their GoFund me that was started before to help give them some financial assistance during this hard time. The medical bills piled up before and are still there and these are just going to continue piling up while as well. Especially while they are taking off time to be there for their son. Any contribution helps and every share and prayer helps too.
BACKGROUND: 11/05/2016
Baby Maddox is only 10 months old and his parents have been battling a roller coaster with his health since 7 months old. First they were told he had leukemia, and after tons of tests and procedures it has been verified that he does not have leukemia but he has a very rare disease called HLH. Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis is a life-threatening immunodeficiency and at Maddox's age it is extremely dangerous. His parents are drowning in medical bills and doing whatever they can to help their sweet baby boy fight this disease and live a long healthy life.
He is on steroids to prepare himself for a bone marrow transplant, as well as chemo. The bone marrow transplant needs to be done by March given the serverity of his disease. Unfortunately, this is another major concern. Maddox has a very unique HLA and his brother Jax is not a match, which would have been ideal. This has been such an extremely difficult time on Samantha and Matt. If you know Samantha, you know what a kind, generous, soul she is and to hear the devastation in her voice rips my heart in two. She would do anything for anyone, especially her boys. I have never met someone who radiates as much love and respect as she does, and thats why she needs all the help, love and support that she can get right now.
