Help baby Farhiya fight cancer

Imagine not being able to step outside and enjoy a beautiful sunny day without developing painful blisters and burns. Imagine living in fear of the sun and being forced to live in darkness. This is the reality for little Farhiya, a 6 year old Somali girl living in Kenya. She has a skin condition called Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) a genetic disease which essentially makes her allergic to the sun. Her mother became blind after suffering from an illness and was not aware of the blisters and burns her daughter was getting whenever she was exposed to the sun. This condition makes her a thousand times more susceptible to skin cancer. Because her family didn’t know about her existing condition they didn’t do anything to protect her from the sun which ultimately led to a big tumor growing in her eye. Her father who works in another city as a brick layer worked hard to pay for a doctor to see her. This is where she received both her skin diagnosis and her cancer diagnosis. Her family is devastated and is desperate to get their young daughter the medical attention she needs to survive. They did an MRI and fortunately the cancer has not spread anywhere else. The tumor in her eye is too big to remove surgery at the moment so they will do radiation and then surgery in hopes to restore little Farhiya’s health. There is no public assistance when it comes to the healthcare system in Kenya so her family is forced to pay for her cancer treatment upfront.
We have volunteer to help this family in this time of desperation. The money we raise here will go towards radiation and then surgery. It will fund the purchasing of proper clothes to protect her from the UV lights when she goes outside. It will also go towards buying window film to protect her skin while she is in her home.
