Help Atlas villages after the Morocco Earthquake

Donation protected
Please help us support the people affected by the tragic events of the Morocco earthquake. Having just returned from the regions most severely affected and spent time in the generous and caring hospitality of the Berber people, Becky and I feel compelled to do something to help.

24-Hour Relay Run
As a show of support and to further encourage people to donate, Becky and I will attempt to complete a 24-hour relay run this Saturday!!!

Based on Hove Lawns in Brighton, starting at 1500hrs on Saturday 16th September we will be taking it in turns to run (shuffle/hobble/walk/crawl) for one hour at a time until 1500hrs on Sunday!

Becky and I have completed some endurance events in the past but this will be our toughest undertaking to date and we hope it will encourage people to give generously to directly assist these wonderful people who have been subjected to untold suffering.

Who are we raising funds for:
We are raising funds for Ahmed Zin of Trek Atlas, based in Asni, Morocco.

How are we connected with Ahmed Zin:
It is only days since we have returned from a family holiday in Morocco where we spent one week of our trip trekking in the Atlas Mountains near the epicentre of this earthquake. Our trip was arranged through Ahmed. Ahmed is more than a mountain guide, he is an ambassador for the Berber people, looking to help his whole community prosper. He looked after us like family and when the news of this earthquake reached us, we were immediately concerned for Ahmed, his friends and family and the wider Berber community who were the most gracious hosts during our trip. Thankfully Ahmed and his family are safe despite their home being damaged and now living in tents.

Our Goal:
To raise funds to support Ahmed’s immediate work on the ground sourcing and supplying shelter, blankets, warm clothes, food and medicine for those in need in Asni and the surrounding villages struggling to be accessed. In the medium term remaining funds will support children trying to return to school and with the reconstruction of peoples.

How the funds will be used:
We are in daily contact with Ahmed receiving updates on his progress. He is going out to villages in the mountains around Asni where their homes have collapsed and access for vehicles has not yet been possible. They are taking what provisions they can source from their own funds in by mule. At the moment they are very aware of the changing seasons and the temperature drop at night so are in need of shelter, blankets, warm clothes, food and medicine. The funds raised will continue to support this work and if monies remain it will be used to assist children back to school and aid the reconstruction of people’s homes.

Process for delivering the funds:
We aim to have Ahmed setup as a beneficiary of this appeal through Go Fund Me so that he has control of handling the funds raised. Our backup plan if this proves unsuccessful is to deliver the funds to him in person when we travel to Morocco at the beginning of October (our flights are already booked).
