Help Ariane Fight Cancer

This fundraiser is being organized by Leslie, Coleen, Don Kevin and Mei for their sister Ariane.

Ariane was recently diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It is an aggressive type of cancer that affects the lymph nodes and multiple organs of the body. The cancer was found in her lung and has now spread to her skull, ribs, and spine. Her left lung has now collapsed and is failing to function. She is in excruciating pain almost 24/7 and can barely get enough sleep or rest. Our mom told us that Ariane prefers to sleep while holding her hand and does not want to be left alone in the hospital room. This is her way of trying to ease her pain and strengthen her spirit. I know Ariane is scared, but our family remains strong and supportive of her.  Every day, Ariane’s functional state is declining. Moving has become increasingly difficult. She is unable to stand and walk because of so much pain and has lost a lot of weight.
In early June 2020, she was admitted to Marikina Valley hospital due to persistent cough and difficulty breathing. Her findings showed fluid build-up in her lungs. The doctor performed suctioning to take the fluid out of her lungs. She stayed in the hospital for a week without steady improvement of symptoms. She was given medications and was sent home. We were very hopeful that her condition would get better, but sadly, this was not the case.
One week later, Ariane’s condition became worse. She was coughing nonstop, could not breathe, and was very weak. She hesitated to be sent to the E.R. despite of her struggle because she did not want to cause any more trouble or burden to our family from paying hospital bills. It breaks my heart every time I think of this. My family had to send her to the hospital where it was found out that the fluid had accumulated again in her lungs. This time, only 1/3 of her right lung was functioning. The doctors needed to put a chest tube that goes through her lungs to drain the fluid out, which had to stay there for a week to help her breathe. After this procedure, her left lung still failed to expand due to formation of thick scars that needed to be excavated. She was sent home with stronger medications and was scheduled for further tests. Her hospital bill then was about Php300,000 (USD6,300) that we have not fully settled yet. 
Exactly a week after being discharged home, she was sent to the Lung Center of the Philippines with severe difficulty in breathing. Doctors took out a sample of the mass found in her lung to run a biopsy, which confirmed cancer. Bone scan was also done, which unfortunately revealed that cancer has spread to her skull, ribs, and spines. Our whole family is deeply devastated by this news, I cannot put it into words. All we know is that we need to act fast, stay together and be strong for Ariane. Friends have come forward to offer their help, which we are so grateful of.

Ariane has been at the Lung Center of the Philippines since mid-July. At this point, Ariane has to undergo 6 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatment as soon as possible to overcome this ordeal. Her chemotherapy medicines add up to Php120,000 (USD2,500) per round. Rituximab alone, costs Php117,000 (USD2,400). Six rounds will total to Php720,000 (USD15,500).

I am reaching out to your generous, kind hearts to help Ariane fight this battle. My affirmation is seeing Ariane triumph over this fight and once again dance endlessly, play with her cute little dogs at home, and just be the jolly Ariane we’ve always known her to be.
She is a 4th year Occupational Therapist student. One more year until she graduates and realizes her dreams of helping people, especially kids with special needs, to be independent and have better, meaningful lives. Please be with us in our journey to support and uplift Ariane- who is known for her lively and cheerful spirit that lights up a room, and a kind heart that touches everyone she meets.
