Help an international PhD student & inventor

Help Indian (Telugu), inventor of treatment of a deadly brain disease & international PhD student to revive his life.

There is an extreme miscarriage of justice happening right now involving an international student from India. Due to privacy and safety concerns, we will refer to him as “SK”, he is an inventor and Ph.D. student (Ph.D. candidate) from a University in Calgary, Alberta. SK is a calm, kind and talented individual who completed all of his studies based on meritorious scholarships, and anyone who knows him knows he loves to help by going above and beyond. We have known SK for many years and have collectively been trying to help him fight for his cause.

SK spent years researching to invent a treatment for Prion Diseases (a deadly brain disease seen in animals & human beings) with the encouragement of his supervisor. An example of such a disease is the mad cow disease which affected Canada's revenue by around 4.5 to 5.5 billion dollars during 2003-2006. Hence, Finding a cure would be a huge deal. All of his novel research findings to treat deadly brain diseases were published as a US patent publication-WO-2018-209445. As the first author, he presented his research findings at local and international conferences. SK mentioned that a professor from the same university even suggested filing for intellectual property rights for his discovery. Unfortunately, once his research was completed on finding a cure for these diseases, His supervisor filed for a patent, and without his knowledge where his contributions were misrepresented. SK mentioned that there were then discussions between his supervisor and him regarding their respective contributions and this led to his supervisor’s spouse, who’s an associate dean at the same university, verbally attacking SK in a public area.

Eventually, SK’s former supervisor recommended authorities to remove SK from the Ph.D. program for “failure to maintain academic progress” despite being a contributor to the patent and having completed all the Ph.D. requirements except defending his Ph.D. thesis. The Supervisor has been withholding his Ph.D. data since 2018 thus, SK was not able to complete & defend his Ph.D. Unfortunately, this meant, his promising future & life has been placed in jeopardy along with him not getting the credit he deserves.

SK is in a financial crisis, fighting to save his career and profession, without being able to work and earn a living. He has depended entirely on the kindness of others, foraging in nature and depleting his entire life savings. Being an international student without a work permit, SK was unable to continue paying rent month to month. Fortunately, a community member was able to accommodate him without taking rent for over 3 years. He comes from a small village in India and has to support his family back home. He even represented himself in the Court of Appeal as he could not afford a committed & competent lawyer’s expenses. SK has lost around 5 years of his valuable life, pursuing justice on his own and in vain.

He has been looking for a competent lawyer with the necessary experience to prosecute a final appeal for him at the Supreme Court of Canada. This is his last chance and your contributions would be helpful to retain a lawyer so he could get the justice he deserves. Contributions will also help in covering SK’s other needs as he has no health and dental insurance since he was unfairly removed from the University. He needs the community’s support, which will go a long way to revive his life and research career. His research has the potential to make everyone proud. We strongly believe that he should be fairly given a chance to defend his Ph.D. thesis and get the credit he rightfully deserves.

Attached you will find documents containing more information on the matter, which serve as proof for statements made here. The information in these documents was submitted to the court.
