Help Amy Get Jaw Surgery

Donation protected
Hi Folks,

I’m making this GoFundMe to raise money for one of my favorite people in the world, Amy Chiarelli. Amy is one of the most compassionate, hilarious, and truly beautiful people I’ve ever met. She is an exceptionally hard worker as a full time caretaker and student; working as a full-time special ed para, part time at her church’s Sunday service daycare, all while pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Studies at Post University. She is one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. She is also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, honestly everyone in her family is a riot, especially when they are together. She is a talented painter and poet. I could truly go on and on about Amy’s many gifts and talents, detail the innumerable reasons why I love this woman, but we actually need to talk about her only flaw: her extremely open jaw.

Amy, the light of my life, has an extremely open jaw where most of her teeth don’t touch when she closes her mouth. This has had the long-term effect of grinding down most of her back teeth and continuously causes swelling in her jaw which is permanently damaging her ear drums and will potentially lead to hearing loss. The immediate effects of these issues are that Amy suffers constant headaches and facial pain in her mandibular joints and closing muscles. She sometimes experiences pain so sharp it stops her in her tracks. Her jaw swells to the point where it rubs her eardrums and causes severe vertigo which can take her out of work and classes for days.

To fix these issues and prevent further damage Amy, the tallest sunflower in the garden of my heart, needs major jaw surgery. Here is a list of the preliminary dental journey for Amy’s mouth:

1. Have four regular teeth and two wisdom teeth extracted
2. Braces for 16 months
3. Surgery to relocate both jaws and install screws to hold the jaws in place
4. Six weeks of recovery
5. Six more months of braces

All in all, Amy is looking at a two year process that she needs to start as soon as possible. This is not a cosmetic or elective procedure either, this has been deemed medically necessary as her condition is rapidly getting worse.

However, like most adults Amy does not have orthodontic insurance coverage and the monthly payments are well out of her price range. Amy, the all-time champion of friendship, has to pay a $2,000 down payment and $6,000 overall for braces and extractions, as well as $1,200 for her wisdom teeth. After that she will need to pay $20,000 for her jaw surgery. We think that the surgery and the wisdom teeth should be largely covered by her insurance, so that will hopefully just leave us with braces and extractions. We may have to revisit this fundraising avenue in the future depending on how things work out.

Right now, I’m asking you to please help me raise $6000 dollars for Amy. Anything that you can give no matter how small is important and is going to help Amy get the care that she needs.

Thank you so much!
