Help Amy Johnson Kick Breast Cancer's Ass!

Hi, this is Tara Kristof and Kathy Cashen. We are friends of Amy Johnson who is embarking on a breast cancer journey and will need our support.

If you have been in the Dallas yoga community for the last two decades then you probably know Amy Johnson. Most likely she has been your teacher or your teacher’s teacher at some point. Amy is known for her knowledge, respect, kindness and her ability to lovingly kick your ass if needed. Some of you might know her more from her band directing days, teaching in both Oklahoma and Texas at the beginning of her professional education journey.

On 9/19/22, Amy was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer) and will be undergoing a double mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery as quickly as scheduling permits. The 1st procedure may take up to 12 weeks of recovery followed by the 2nd procedure of reconstructive surgery, which should be significantly shorter. During this time, she will need binge watching suggestions, zoom brunches, and anything that helps with boredom. Those who teach yoga full time don’t have vacation days banked or sick leave, and they often don’t have great insurance. If you know our beloved Amy, then you know she would never ask for help, so we’re asking for her. We talk a lot in yoga about “holding space”. Holding space is the conscious act of being present, open, allowing, and protective of what another needs in each moment. Amy has held space for thousands of people in hundreds of classes and now it’s our turn to hold space for her.
