Fresh Water for Fresh Starts!

Tax deductible

Who am I?
Hi, my name is Alexis! I am a junior at St. John's University studying Public Administration & Services.

My entire life I have been infatuated with Africa. I asked from 3rd grade & up to go to Africa to “build schools and homes,” “bring water,” etc, but for safety reasons, my parents always shut me down (even for my sweet sixteen, where I begged for a mission trip to Africa instead of a party). Finally, I have manifested this into a reality.

I am both honored and humbled to be traveling to Ghana this May with an amazing NGO: Saha Global. I can’t help but think it was meant to be, and now I’m asking for your help to make this dream a reality. Saha Global is encouraging us to fundraise the money to go to Ghana to see our skills in action! Not only are your donations here tax-deductible, but you can also feel secure knowing that you are making a difference to those in need around the world with just a few clicks of a button.

What is Saha Global?
Saha Global is an organization whose focus is in the northern region of Ghana where 50% of people lack access to clean drinking water. This can lead to a number of health issues including diarrheal diseases and cholera—all major causes of mortality! They have launched 122 water businesses that provide safe drinking water to 56,247 people.

What is Saha Global's mission?
1) Clean water initiative
2) Women empowerment

Clean Water Initiative:
Many people in the communities in the northern region of Ghana are drinking, bathing in, and cooking with water contaminated with various bacteria and diseases, feces, etc. Unlike the well-known drilling of wells and water pumps, Saha has come up with a solution to the epidemic that has hit this region. They show the women in these communities how to filter it by introducing them to the local products to that will treat the contaminated water from their local community sources and make it safe to drink. This solution is not only a low tech but has a 100% sustainability rate. All water businesses that Saha Global has opened are still in use and producing clean water for their communities today.

Women Empowerment:
The women who are then filtering their contaminated water are able to sell the clean water to their communities. This water is transported by hand from the dugout, treated by hand by these women, and given out to their communities at an affordable price. 100% of the revenue from this stays in the community. The women entrepreneurs then manage it to cover the cost of the water materials and to compensate entrepreneurs for their work.

Why Donate?
Each team is offered to fundraise to help jumpstart the businesses for the women entrepreneurs to make all of this possible. This will cover all costs to do so!
