Help Akudo fight stage 3 breast cancer

Donation protected

Hi, My name is Tejiri Ededey and I am fundraising for my friend Akudo Ogbonna, a wife and mother to two lovely kids who lives in Lagos, Nigeria and was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2020. It began in 2018, when she noticed a lump in her right breast. At that time, she consulted three different doctors and the reports from ultrasound scans showed the presence of a mass that was benign. Coincidentally, one of the consultations was whilst she was pregnant with her youngest child. She expressed her discomfort with the lump and requested it to be removed. But the Gynecologist declined her request on the grounds that the procedure could impact the pregnancy and since the scan indicated it was benign, “there was no cause for alarm.” However, 14 months later, she experienced severe pain in that same breast which required that another series of tests be conducted, including a mammogram, the indicative report was a BIRAD 4C outcome suggesting a mass with a high likelihood of being cancer. Further biopsy conducted in October 2020 that confirmed that the mass as malignant. On the 11th of November 2020 she had a repeat biopsy that confirmed a case of a high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ, the tumor was estrogen and progesterone receptor negative and HER-2 positive.

Since then, Akudo has undergone the following medical treatments:

• On the 4th of December 2020 she had modified right radical mastectomy and clearing of the right axillary lymph nodes to stage 2.

• She has undergone five chemotherapy sessions, with three weeks intervals in-between sessions.

To ensure the best possible outcome she consulted other oncologists both locally and internationally (the United States of America and the United Kingdom). A repeat biopsy in the United States confirmed a high grade ductal carcinoma in situ but the tumor was estrogen and progesterone receptor positive and HER-2 positive AKA triple positive breast cancer(HER2+, ER+, PR+ ) a different diagnosis from the biopsy conducted in November 2020 and would require more aggressive treatment of hormone therapy for 5 to 10 years in conjunction with the existing treatment plan.
The silver lining in the journey thus far is that Akudo remains upbeat, positive and ever determined to fight for her life by beating this cancer that seeks to destroy her. She is the source of joy to her family especially the children, and the pivot upon which the family activities revolve. Her family needs her to be around to help finish the good work she has started.
To this end, she is desirous to have a fair chance to fight this cancer by seeking medical treatment in London, but this has truly been a difficult time for her family (emotionally, financially, and spiritually). To date, the 5 chemo sessions already administered were funded from her family’s limited resources and generous assistance from friends, family, associates, and colleagues and we are running out of funds for her treatment.
I am reaching out to you to come to her aid by contributing any sum as you are lead to help fund the next round of treatments which will cost about $150,000.00 to cover radiation, hormone therapy, all the associated tests and scans, etc and her living expenses in the UK during the treatment period. I am not unmindful of the prevailing difficult times, but I and her loved ones have no choice but to come ask for your help as the alternative is to do nothing and have her family especially her children watch her succumb to this debilitating cancer because we have run out funds.
It has been a traumatic time for her family to watch a vibrant, caring, soft spoken wife/mother become so ill that she is unable to work, take care of herself and/or give her usual 100% to the care of her children and family. Please join and help Akudo beat this cancer – with your help she can overcome this adversity.
Thank you for taking out time to read our story. I am both humbled and honored by your anticipated donation to help the lovely Akudo beat cancer. God bless you.
