Dear all,
We are setting up this GoFundMe page for our dearest Suzie & Henrik’s four-year-old son Adam. Like any parent, their hope for Adam was for him to have a happy and healthy childhood. But all this came crashing down on the 7th of December 2016 when they were told what all parents fear the most – your child has cancer. Adam was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL Type T Leukemia).
Adam was rushed to the ICU for immediate treatment. He was kept there for eight days for dialysis and immediate chemo treatment following the American Leukemia Protocol. This was followed by a thirty-three-day hospital stay for more tests and treatment. Unfortunately, during this time, the treatment was not covered by insurance, so Adam’s parents with the help from their family and friends had to pay approximately 1.5 million Thai Baht ($47,880 USD) on their own.
Following the treatment, Adam’s routine chemo and treatment were paid for by insurance through Henrik’s work place. However, since November 2017, Adam’s parents had to once again pay for his monthly chemo treatment and hospital visits out of pocket as they have fully exhausted the sum insured. Although financially straining, the cost was still manageable until they received the news they have been dreading since this rollercoaster ride began: the cancer has returned.
Now Adam has to undergo another round of extensive chemo for a month followed by a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). The total duration of this extensive treatment will be approximately four to five months. The cost for the BMT alone is estimated at $100,000 USD. This does not include the hospital stay for that duration in the BMT unit which will cost over $30,000 USD more.
Having already spent over $47,880.00 out of pocket and exhausting their insurance claims, Adam’s family is seeking your help to save Adam’s life. No one, yet alone a child, should have to endure such pain and suffering.
We are setting up this page to provide comfort to Adam and his family and show that we fully support them through this very difficult time in their lives. We would like to minimize any financial worries Adam’s parents may have on their mind so that they can focus on what is most important at this very crucial and trying time, to stay positive and do all that they possibly can so that Adam can go back to being the free spirited and jovial child that he is.
Adam, at a tender age of four has gone through more medical procedures and been in and out of the hospital more times than most adults experience in their lifetime. Through it all, his spirit has never wavered. Adam’s strength and resilience has been absolutely incredible since being diagnosed with the disease shy of turning three. His zest and love for life is so incredible and watching his tiny body fight this vicious disease is as inspirational as it is heart-breaking. Adam is a true fighter and we love him with all our heart.
