Help ABSS raise funds for their Saturday school!

https://afruikabantusaturdayschool.weebly.com/#  Afruika Bantu Saturday School (ABSS) provides lessons in English, Maths, Science and Black History to children aged 5-16 years old every Saturday morning during term time in South London.

Black History is an important part of the ABSS as it’s imperative that our young people are aware of their rich and beautiful history. Education is critical both in terms of forming a strong identity and addressing systemic racism and, while the current national curriculum doesn’t cover black history, we are filling a vital gap in the knowledge of young people. Students learn about subjects ranging from black British history and black people’s contribution in the UK, to figures like Malcolm X and Harriet Tubman, and international revolutions like the uprising in Haiti.

We are guided by Marcus Garvey who reminds us that “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots,” and so the teaching of history pre-slavery is imperative in helping inspire children to achieve their potential.

We have been operating for over 20 years but, as we stopped receiving any funding in 2017, we now rely on donations from the community and parents to operate.

Your donations would be gratefully received and used for our young people to fund enrichment classes, focus groups and educational trips and resources.

Thank you.
