OVERVIEW

After a rigorous selection process, I have been selected by Habib University, Karachi, Pakistan to attend the Stanford International Honors Program 2019 on 50% scholarship to represent the institution and my country. YOU can help me avail this amazing opportunity and realize my dream of attending one of the most prestigious Universities in the World!

ABOUT THE IHP PROGRAM

The Stanford Summer International Honours Program (IHP) is an eight-week program held every year at the Stanford campus in California, USA. IHP students come from 27 different universities in 17 countries around the world. The program combines top-notch academics with IHP exclusive activities that explore the rich cultural, social and geographical resources of the San Francisco Bay Area, making this an invaluable experience for students from all backgrounds.

The program is currently being offered to Habib University students exclusively in Pakistan. Candidates for the program are selected through a rigorous screening process where the candidates’ academic performance, meta-curricular achievements, presentations and interviews are assessed and the top 10 are selected.

ABOUT ME

My name is Muhammad Abdullah Siddiqui and I am an undergraduate sophomore pursuing an electrical engineering major with a minor in physics at Habib University, Pakistan. I have the privilege of being a ‘Yohsin Scholar’ (100% merit scholarship) which has enabled me to study at one of the most prestigious institutions in Pakistan.

Attending Habib University has been a great opportunity for me because it has allowed me to grow academically and as a person. I try my best to make the most of the experience by actively participating in various extracurricular activities, student politics, work-studies as well as utilizing research opportunities.

A Brief Look at My Recent Achievements:

·  Yohsin Scholar (100% Fee Waiver) at Habib University (2017-Present) maintaining a CGPA ~ 3.98

·  Dean’s Honors List for Fall Semester 2017.

·  First Author for a paper  titled ‘GeneTech 2.0: Improved Genetic Circuit Synthesis and Technology Mapping’  which was accepted for a presentation at the International Workshop on Bio Design Automation held at the David Brower Center, Berkeley, USA and published at the same in August 2018.  This was another opportunity I couldn't avail because of lack of funds and was only able to send the poster to the conference to be displayed. The poster is shown below.

·  Currently representing Mind Boggle Club at Habib University as President (2017-Present).

·  Currently leading Mind Maze Module at Omicron Science Olympiad at Habib University (2017-Present).

·  Currently leading Digital Logic Design Module at Code-Play 3.0 at Habib University.

Being accepted to the IHP program with 50% scholarship by Habib University is a huge opportunity for me which I know I can utilize for my personal as well as academic growth, but unfortunately one which I will be unable to avail if I cannot raise the rest of the finances. You can help me in this regard.

PROGRAM AIMS AND MY GOALS

The International Honors Program aims to bring together students from all over the world and allow them to collaborate in the incubating chamber that is the Silicon Valley. The program has been immensely popular since its conception, and Habib University students are the only ones in Pakistan currently able to benefit from this unique experience. If I can raise the funds required, I will be part of the fourth group of students that represent Pakistan abroad.

My main motivation in pursuing this program is the unprecedented research opportunity that it provides. Motivated by my success in co-authoring a paper on Genetic Circuits this July, I have actively been exploring research opportunities abroad to advance my work. The courses that I aim to take there particularly Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology will be of great value since I will be able to greatly boost my knowledge of the field of Bio-Design, working alongside world class scholars like Dr. Jeremy Hsu and at research labs like the Stanford Bio-X facility. In fact, a very viable outcome from my experience is that I can even work towards a collaboration between the Pakistani and Stanford research community, since I already have experience working with faculty from the Technical University of Denmark for my aforementioned paper. Upon my return, I plan to share my experience with the Pakistani student community, either through lectures held at Habib or online. I believe that this will be immensely beneficial for the Pakistani undergrad community since the field in question is an emerging one, rich in research and publication opportunities that undergraduate students easily undertake.

Furthermore, this will also be a golden opportunity for me to explore different cultures, spending two months with not just American students but top students from 17 countries around the globe. This will be immensely beneficial for my personal development and grooming and will give me the international academic exposure and experience that I need to be successful while pursuing my graduate and post graduate studies abroad at a later time.

Stanford University, being situated in the Silicon Valley also offers much in the way of innovation and entrepreneurship which have made Silicon Valley the global hub of tech start-ups. I believe that we have a lot to learn from what have been achieved in the business incubators in California and similar entrepreneurial ventures are sorely needed here as well to create employment and utilize Pakistani talent locally instead of abroad. I plan to initiate a start-up in the sustainable energy field utilizing my knowledge of both biology and engineering and the skills that I will gain from this experience upon my return.

My abundant academic and extra-curricular experience will allow me to represent Pakistan gracefully at Stanford, explore unique opportunities, all the while proving myself against students from all across the world and working on my research.
