Hi everyone, my name is Aaron. I’m an independent college student living on my own, supporting myself financially, and commuting to both school and work every week. I’ve been working really hard to stay on top of my classes, pay my rent, and continue providing for myself. Last week, my car engine completely broke down.

I was driving on the highway when I noticed my temperature gauge rising. I pulled over as quickly as I could, but by the time I got to the shoulder, smoke was already coming from under the hood. My engine was cooked. I had to get the car towed, and the mechanic later told me that the engine cracked and oil flooded the pistons. The damage was so severe that the entire engine needs to be replaced.

I bought this car just six months ago with nearly all the money I had saved. Losing it this soon is heartbreaking, stressful, and financially devastating. Because I live alone and support myself, I don’t have anyone I can rely on for help with an emergency like this. Without a car, I can’t get to my classes or work — which means I can’t make the money I need to afford rent or stay in school.
