Help a Single Mom Prevent Eviction

I am a single mother of three children, ages 5, 10, and 13, living in Newark, NJ. We are facing eviction on July 17th unless I can raise enough to cover our rent. After spending time in a shelter, I worked hard to secure a better-paying job and stable housing for my family. We didn’t receive rental assistance or support when we left the shelter, but I’ve kept going—doing everything I can to give my kids a safe home. I have an active CNA license and am CPR and First Aid certified. I’ve set up multiple interviews for full-time CNA positions and am determined to get back on my feet. I’ve kept my certifications current and continue showing up, even when it’s hard. I don’t want a handout—I just need a hand up to get through this moment and stay on the path I’ve worked so hard to create.
Since leaving the shelter, having a stable home has made a huge difference for my children. For the first time in a long time, they’ve had their own space to feel safe, sleep peacefully, and focus on simply being kids. We’ve been able to establish a routine—regular meals, homework time, and quiet moments that weren’t possible in a shared shelter environment. My kids have started smiling more, sleeping better, and showing signs of emotional healing. This home has been more than just a roof—it’s been our reset, our foundation. Losing it now would undo so much of that progress.
Staying in our home means everything for my children’s future. One of my children has special needs and thrives on routine—being uprooted again would be incredibly hard on them emotionally and developmentally. I want to keep them enrolled in their current school, where they’ve started to feel a sense of belonging. I dream of giving them the chance to focus on school, friendships, and childhood—not on survival. Keeping our home would give them the consistency they need to continue healing and building a better future.
