Help a refugee trans woman in Lebanon find safety

Donation protected
Sara is a Syrian trans woman refugee in Lebanon. As a visible trans woman, she faces systemic barriers that make it difficult for her to find work, housing or safety on the street. As a refugee, she is facing a long and endless resettlement process which has put her life in Lebanon on hold for years (her application, which was unfortunately rejected, is currently being appealed). She has had a few small jobs through the help of friends but those were unstable and not sufficient to pay for her living expenses. She is currently homeless and only has temporary housing. She received several job and housing rejections because she is trans, and has had awful experiences of violence and street harassment.

Transitioning and being less visibly trans could help tremendously in protecting Sara from street harassment, in addition to finding housing and stable work. But to go through with transitioning, she needs gender affirming surgeries which are very expensive.

SARA IS ASKING FOR YOUR URGENT SUPPORT TO HELP HER FUND THESE SURGERIES.

Transitioning would make her life subject to less cruelty, discrimination and violence. The breast augmentation surgery would be a huge milestone for her. This surgery will allow her to be who she is and will make her life safer after plenty of awful experiences in Syria and in Lebanon.

The cost break down is as follows:

▷3500$ breast augmentation surgery

In Lebanon, we are witnessing a beautiful moment where people are not only revolting against the sectarian ruling elites and demanding dignity for themselves but are also helping each other on a daily basis, given the failure of the state to protect their most basic rights. This revolutionary moment in Lebanon’s history should also be a moment where we extend our solidarity to the most vulnerable groups among us: trans refugees. They are a group with a very precarious life due to daily threats of potential violence around every street corner, potential harassment in every interaction with a stranger, restricted access to employment, housing and healthcare, as well as heavy emotional pressures.

A revolutionary wave against the global capitalist system is sweeping the world from Latin America to the Middle East. This is an opportunity to look into our daily practices and think how we can be more accountable and show solidarity with the people and communities that are subjected to more oppressions than we are. The work of revolutions is to learn how to organize and challenge power on both the macro and micro levels, to align our daily practices with the new revolutionary projects!

Help Sara afford to transition and to continue to fearlessly exist despite tremendous suffering and structural oppression! Any donation, however small, even if it's 5 euros, is appreciated! If you can’t donate, please share this link as widely as possible.
