Help a NYC Taxi Driver
Donation protected
My father Raul has been a taxi driver in NYC since 1999. His taxi has survived 9/11, a recession, and now COVID-19 threatens my dads way of life.
My father is 58 years old and has diabetes. Even though this made my father compromised, he chose to work because he had no choice.
He is self-employed, he gets no sick-pay, no hazard-pay and my father has to pay for his own health insurance. Though he is a registered taxi with the Taxi and Limousine Commission, he is considered a sub-contractor of NYC and they are not required to pay for any of his benefits.
In the past 3 weeks my father has been taking hospital staff to fight the Corona Virus and potentially sick people to get tested. Now my dad is sick and home.
My dad has never asked for help from the government or city a day in his life. He has tried to get unemployment but the lines are so busy he hasn’t been able to reach them over over a week.
He needs our help. The money I am asking for today can help my father cover 2 months worth of expenses. Please donate what you can to save an unsung hero like my dad.
