Help a Handicap: Dan Plappert's New Wheelchair
Don protégé
As many of you know, Dan Plappert is in a wheelchair…
Dan was born with cerebral palsy. This lifetime disorder limits his ability to walk, but not talk. He has used a power wheelchair since age 3 and been a semi-professional driver since age 8, contrary to what some of his coworkers may say.
Within the last year, his current chair has suffered numerous setbacks from a tire breaking off to needing a new joystick and batteries. This resulted in a taxing financial and emotional burden. Thus, in his chair’s 5th year he has completed an over 6-month process of obtaining approval for a new wheelchair. Due to the rampant toxic ableism in the medical industry, there will be a large out-of-pocket expense. Insurance deemed the seat elevation feature for the new chair not medically necessary. Without this feature, Dan will be limited further in-home and social settings. The original goal of this fundraiser was to offset half of the costs and make you laugh. As a result of the astounding support in less than 24 hours the goal has been raised to cover the entire wheelchair!
How you can help?
If you can, please assist him on his journey to continue being a strong handicapped presence in the Akron community. All donations and sharing of this page are greatly appreciated. Additionally, some welcomed alternatives are PayPal, Venmo, cash, checks, robotic legs, and being thankful for your ability to walk!
Everyone that donates will receive upon request a #CripLivesMatter wristband, a photo of him wearing a jacket, or an autographed headshot of him as Jeff Friedman from Friedman, Domiano & Smith.
The Quantum Edge 3 is the same wheelchair that viral star Back It Up Terry drives and for more details on this model see the links below…

P.S. The ableist media was wrong. This chair was made in America!
