Help a Greenpoint Family in need

Hello all, JoAnn & Amanda needs our help in raising money to move.

 

    Amanda is a 21yr old special young lady with Cerebral Palsy. Due to her type of Cerebral Palsy (Spastic Quadriplegic), she is confined to a wheelchair.

    They currently live in an apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that isn't handicap accessible. They have to leave Amanda's motorized wheelchair in the lobby of their building because there's no elevator and they live on the 3rd floor. JoAnn, Amanda's mother has to carry her up two flights of stairs. JoAnn used to be able to do that when Amanda was a little girl, but now it’s tough, she can't do that anymore. Amanda graduated from high school 3yrs ago and that was the last time she was able to use her motorized wheelchair freely. Amanda would leave her wheelchair at school and transfer when she got to school because her building isn't accessible; she did that for many years. Amanda is not able to be independent due to her living situation and that is very hard on a 21yr old whole wants to go back to school to take up technology classes but can't until she moves into an accessible apartment.  

 

   For many years JoAnn has been applying for low-income accessible apartments and nothing has come through yet. She has applied for 67 apartments and is on several waiting lists for many years. JoAnn is an active Lions member in her community. She helps out with food, clothes, and toy drives. She also volunteers at her son’s school, but this time she needs our help. We want to raise money to help JoAnn and her daughter Amanda find an accessible place to live that way Amanda can use her motorized wheelchair, go back to school and become independent.
