Help a Community Unsung Hero

Donation protected

No one can walk onto the grounds of Polo Golf and not smile meeting Daniel Garcia.   He always has the biggest smile on his face and no matter what kind of   mood you're in, you have to smile back at him.  As a member of our maintenance staff, he ensures that we have the  most well-kept facilities.  Everyone at Polo who knows him, loves him ... not just because of his work ethic, but because of the joy  he brings us.  He is the heart of Polo.   Not only is he a hero at work, he is a hero at home.  Daniel has four  children, and 14 grandchildren.  His work schedule is arranged so that he is able to go to all his grandchildren's afternoon and evening   extracurricular events.   Any extra money he has, is sent to help his family in  Mexico.   Daniel is also a committed member and hero of his church, St. John Paul II.   Before COVID hit, he served the Eucharist on Sundays to those who where sick and could not come to  church.

All this is why it was so devastating to learn that in early December, he, his wife,  and daughter were diagnosed with COVID-19.  Maria, his wife, was hospitalized for three days and is now home recovering.  Daniela, his daughter, was never hospitalized and, after being home for three weeks, has been cleared and started back to work on December 28.  Daniel, was hospitalized on December 14.  Since then he has been placed in ICU, is on a respirator, feeding tube, and sedation.  Over the weekend, they began turning him on his stomach for 16 hours at a time, hoping to increase the amount of oxygen getting into their lungs - a practice done for the sickest of COVID patients.

Daniel has been out of work now for a month and there is no way to know how  much longer he will be in the hospital.  Even when he is discharged - and the family  is going on faith that he will come home to them - he will have lost a lot of muscle mass and will have a long recovery.  Maria, has rheumatoid arthritis, and is not able to work.  Daniela and her two boys (5 and 10), moved in with the family before this to help her parents with their mortgage and other expenses.

In addition to the regular household expenses and mortgage, the HVAC unit went out over Christmas weekend and is having to be replaced.   The family does not have medical insurance, so we can only imagine what those bills will be.

First and foremost, we are asking for prayers, for Daniel and his family; however with Daniel out of work and mounting medical bills, we know they could use financial support also.  Please join us in contributing to the Daniel Garcia fund.  He truly is an unsung hero to so many people.
