While the goal is still to get to Afrika (South Afrika specifically) where we can setup a permanent home base for BBS. We now have the opportunity to potentially take BBS to Germany in 2024. These are the beginning steps of launching BBS internationally and being able to support ourselves while making this huge transition.
We are still fighting homelessness and are looking for opportunities for BBS in order to bring us out of this part of our life.
BBS is powerful work needed to shift the care and lack of intention shown to Black communities across the diaspora.
Our power is in reconnecting, understanding and redefining our bodies outside of the yt gaze. The understanding of body and self can lead to success in many fields for Black folx but we must get back to the basics, which for stolen the moment we because enslaved persons worldwide. This is what BBS is all about. Restoring power, peace, and confidence to the Black body.
We are Kiing and Siir. We have been homeless since March 2023. Kiing is a multidisciplinary artist who holds a MFA in theatre from the University of California, Irvine. Siir Cole hold a Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt University. You can find out more about them at bespokecurry.com
They work for for themselves and together teach a course called Black Beauty School that is about redefining Black bodies and empowering Black bodies beyond the chair.
After experiencing a year of horrible housing discrimination, theft, and harm in Portland, Oregon they were forced into homelessness. Upon first moving to PDX their uhaul trailer and later their car was stolen in Portland. While they have filed with HUD and other state entities concerning their deep housing discrimination there has been no resolution. Even with a years worth of documented proof and the property management company having a track record of harm against Black bodies. For a year we were forced to spend excessive funds outside of rent because they did not have access to clean water, appliances were broken, and the apartment was crumbling from poor care.
Since March they have been living in Airbnb's in the Los Angeles area while seeking to relaunch their work. The stress and toll this has taken on their mental health and ability to regulate has been immense. As the US becomes more and more unsafe for individuals with out intersections, they are seeking opportunities and community outside of the states.
Their goal is to raise the funds to support themselves while taking Black Beauty School abroad. This coursework has wide reaching application for Black liberation and community. While educating and empowering Black folx of all intersections. They are seeking to move outside of the US and setup headquarters in South Afrika by way of Germany. They recognize that this is not easy work, but the entirety of their lives have been hard. They are willing to fight for their freedom and the freedom of their Black siblings across the diaspora no matter the location.
