Help Kate Battle Brain Cancer

Donation protected
In December 2016, Kate went to the doctors because she felt something was wrong. A tumor was found in her brain and days later she had a quarter sized lump removed from her brain.  She was diagnosed with category 4 Glioblastoma, which is the most aggressive form of this cancer.   Kate faces severe challenges: a major seizure following her surgery, inability to read, write, recall numbers and sometimes words all caused by the 4 months of radiation and chemo to stop the growth of the tumor.   She can’t care for herself and has at times required a walker.  A serious fall landed her in a rehab center for a month.  When her family and friends can’t be there, she requires a home health aide, which is not covered by insurance.

By the odds, Kate shouldn’t be here. But Kate is a fighter. She is also a wise, steadfast, and compassionate person.  She has practiced Buddhism for 40 years, and is truly a ‘Bodhisattva of the Earth’. Countless people have told me how Kate has helped them.  I am one of them.  When I experienced a traumatic, life changing event, Kate was suddenly right there for me when other friends disappeared because they ‘didn’t know what to say’.

Kate’s husband, Hal, has managed her care to the utmost of his ability, while holding down his teaching position with LA Unified.  Standard medicine has done all it can.  There are no other therapies (besides clinical trials that have shown no results for Glioblastoma). Since traditional medicine has no answers, her best hope is immunity, nutritional and gene therapy available in Mexico. This approach has had much more success than anything available in the United States right now.  This treatment requires being in residence for 1 month and costs $30K. Please contribute to help Kate keep fighting.  The goal is to raise $30 by the end of February to enable Kate to enter the program in June.
