Veteran Defender Fights Rare Cancer

Champion of Veterans Needs Help Fighting Rare Cancer

Jeri Clark Goen never thought she would need assistance for cancer surgery or dealing with major home repairs.  Yet she now desperately needs help so she can focus on healing in a safe environment and avoiding financial collapse.

Jeri was diagnosed recently with lung cancer.  It is a rare cancer called Canceroid NET tumor. Jeri is not a smoker. She learned this following diagnostic procedures that have already cost thousands of dollars.  The PET scan alone was $12,000.  To date, she has had 12 doctors and 4 different hospitals involved with her care. Doctors believe the lung cancer is operable, however, and a good outcome is expected if it is quickly attended.  The surgery is scheduled for mid August.  Treatment is estimated to take about a month. They are considering using the medication Somostatin which may have to be taken for the rest of her life to assist with treatment and cure.  Insurance coverage is low for this expensive drug.

When Jeri was diagnosed, she was already dealing with damage to her home from an earthquake in Jenks, Oklahoma in November of 2016.  Her home suffered approximately $25,000 in damages.  The house had a cracked foundation and intermittent leaks in the water pipes under the house. It is believed that these leaks promoted the development of a black mold infestation in her home.   Black mold produces a toxic environment and is difficult and expensive to eradicate.  Household furnishings and materials had to be discarded. She became very ill from the mold infestation and has had to go through lengthy treatment.

I have known Jeri since our time together in high school in Tulsa (class of “65).  She always has given much of herself to help other people. She works in psychiatry at a VA hospital providing suicide prevention, diagnosis and treatment services.  And she is essential in assisting in the care of her two grandchildren who live with her.

On and off the clock, Jeri Clark Goen, VA PAC, also helps our Veterans with their mental health needs, providing assessment and treatment services plus on-going counseling and support. She also serves on the anti-suicide team for high risk Veterans. Jeri is and has been a steady and strong advocate and caregiver for our Veterans. Veterans who had given up ever getting the help they needed have come to her as a last hope. She is a hero in many Veterans' eyes.

The cancer treatment is incredibly expensive and difficult.  Needless to say, her outcome prospects are linked to taking the quickest possible action to avoid the cancer metastasizing. She has been overwhelmed with bills from the earthquake aftermath, the work involved in the mold irradiation, and replacement of household belongings. She thought her insurance would cover the damages and quickly learned it did not.

Jeri has always been focused on health and staying healthy, even now with all her struggles. But mother nature has given her a challenge she cannot fight alone.

Please help this angel.  She and her family need our prayers, plus any financial assistance you can give.  Also please forward this request to your friends on Facebook.

Thank you so much for any assistance you can give.
