Lovely Senior Damsel in Distress

SEND LOVE TO THIS LOVELY SENIOR DAMSEL IN
DISTRESS!                      

Elizabeth, 67, resides with her cat on a sidewalk by Main Street in Venice.  She’s previously lived on the Westside for 31 years, but has been homeless for over a year, derailed from her comfortable apartment due to the high increase in rent.

The recent days of high temperatures had left Elizabeth weathered down, despondent and sunburned.  She was especially concerned for her life-long pet.  She stated that she didn’t believe there was much hope for her to acquire housing, since the focus was primarily on vets and not senior women.

It was Matt Shaw of the Venice Neighborhood Council that had spoken with Elizabeth on occasion and then decided to contact the Homeless Task Force (HTF) organization for possible intervention.   Knowing it’s difficult to acquire housing for people with pets, Chaplain Regina and Rachel of the HTF temporarily placed her in a pet-friendly motel. There Elizabeth would get a cool shower, some much needed rest, and the energy needed to make a phone call to the Social Security office to apply for retirement benefits. Though that phone call proved to be a milestone, the downside is that the benefits due her will not be available for several months.  Disheartened to have her out on the street again pending the disbursement of her retirement funds, we are asking the community to rally together with a heart to give the funds to keep her and her kitty safe in a motel until such time as her benefits and a vacancy become available.   Funds will also be used for food, clothing, and miscellaneous needs.
