Help 70-year-old Vietnamese mom go to the US

Donation protected
My name is Khanh, a Vietnamese girl, and I have admitted to Duke Law University - Master of Law Program which will be started this fall. I have awarded a merit scholarship for 1 year studying in the US.

The problem is, I have an elderly and sick mother, who I could not leave her home alone. She is a single mom who fought against the extreme public humiliation to grow me up. She was a literature teacher in high school with a salary of less than $200 per month. To me, she is the strongest woman in the world.

Now she is 70 years old, with hypotension and coronary disease which could make her heart suddenly stops working. Furthermore, Herniated Disc disease that would stop her from simply standing up.

In 2018, 2 times I rushed home from the office when my neighbor called and told me that she could not breathe. When I was home, her feet were cold, the arms and hands were cold, her mouth was shaking while she was trying to talk to me. I brought her to the hospital in the extreme fear that she would just leave me in this world anytime. The disease is not too bad that would force my mother to be attached to the hospital, simple first aid technical are enough for her. But I need to be near to her and ready for an emergency.

Also, during May to June 2018, the Herniated Disc disease prevented my mom from leaving the bed on her own. So early morning I helped her to have breakfast, went to work, drove home at noon to help her have lunch, went to work again. Imagine that she had to lie there on the bed and wait for me to be home with her. At the end of the day, she told me that she counted from 1 to 1000 many times while waiting for me. She got better thanks to physiotherapy and medicine. Now she is back to almost normal life but the disease is still there and can be back anytime.

Provided the above incidents, it’s hard for me to imagine that I must be 15,000km away from her in an entire 1 year. To sponsor my mom to the US, I must prove a source of funding of USD17,000 for her.

I have this dream to be an excellent Vietnamese lawyer in the alternative energy area, as I am currently working for solar power and wind power projects. I wrote an article on Asian-mena Counsel Newspaper discussing future of green energy in Vietnam. I dream to be a lawyer who can influence the Vietnamese legislation and policy in this area, to protect the environment in Vietnam. That’s why I aim to pursuing Environmental Law Program at Duke Law.

Can I fulfill my dream but not have to sacrifice taking care of my mother?  Please help!
