Help 4x Cancer Warrior Survive Pandemic

Have you ever spoken to Julie Negrin? Heard one of her podcasts ? Read her blog ? Watched her activism on behalf of the Affordable Care Act? This woman is a powerhouse. Passionate, thoughtful, insightful, quick-witted, and eloquent, Julie has a well-informed and empathetic point of view on today’s most pressing societal issues from healthcare to gender politics to ableism.

Heartbreakingly, instead of pursuing her passions and further enlightening the world about issues that matter to us all, Julie is spending most of her time keeping herself alive. She suffers from Lynch Syndrome, a genetic disorder that puts its victims at risk for over 10 cancers. After three surgeries to remove melanoma in 2011, in March 2014 Julie was hit with three more unrelated cancers (colon, endometrial, and ovarian) and lost four organs. Although doctors told her she’d be lucky to live a few more years, this month we are celebrating SIX YEARS OF POST-CANCER LIFE! But ensuring that Julie lives for at least six more years is going to require your help.

Julie not only lost her beloved career teaching adults and children nutrition and cooking, but also her independence. In 2016, when she could barely get out of bed and go to work she moved in with her parents. She and her dad Marv, who had the same genetic condition would coach each other and share nutrition tips for 3 years, but sadly, he passed away last summer from his third cancer. So Julie is grieving her dad who not only was her Lynch hero, dad and roommate, but also the person who financially supported her. His loss is just one additional blow to her well-being.

45862346_158430874831053_r.jpegFinancially, Julie is drowning. Her physical disability takes up too much time to work in a traditional full-time job.  Because her medical case is so unusual and complicated, most of her medical treatment and nutrition supplements are out-of-pocket, costing between $2500-3000 per month. With little family support paying for medical treatment, she is becoming increasingly fragile and anxious about her growing credit card bill debt. She is alone and completely reliant on others for assistance.

45862346_1584244675658273_r.jpegJulie wants to spend whatever time she has left sharing her 30 years of nutrition knowledge and cancer prevention advice—she has so much to share with others facing medical issues—but is so tired from doing her own caregiving, she hasn’t had energy to organize her content. Her podcasts, which she can do safely from bed, are becoming more and more popular. With your help, she can leave behind a legacy of helping people heal. Please consider donating anything, even if it feels small to you. Every donation makes a financial and psychological difference.

Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for your support,

Team Julie
