Help 4 Families Affected by Harvey
Donation protected
The devastation left after Hurricane Harvey is unimaginable. We are Ashly Bauserman from Washington D.C. and Kim Villereal a social worker from Houston who decided that we needed to do our part in helping families in need during such a difficult time in whatever way we could.
We have identified, met and been to the homes of four Latin-American low-income families we were told about who are not currently receiving anywhere near enough help to get back on their feet. This is a campaign to help these families during a time of tradgedy know they are not alone and make the burden they are currently caring not be so heavy. We thank the Pastor of the Igelsia Restauracion en Jesucristo and the Director of the Alianza Latina Internacional for helping put us in touch with these families and for all they have already done for their communities.
Ashly will be going to Houston and will personally take the money along with a contractor to purchase mold related cleaning supplies, dumpster truck rentals, drywall and insullation along with other construction related materials, pay for a plumber and engineer, and any labor that won't be donated by the people of the Church. We have calculated the total amount will be around $8,000. The funds will also be used to purchase gift cards for the four families to purchase undergarments and for items needed immediately not received through donations like towels, soap, toothpaste, feminine products etc. The total amount of gift cards being purchased will be $1,000.
Family 1
A beautiful couple, their daughter and 1 year-old grandaughter who lost all their belongings in their apartment and cars and were one of the last families rescued. A husband who works in construction and needs a truck to do his job and his wife who just really wants kitchen items because she loves to cook for the community.
Family 2
A family of six and a newborn who also lost every material possession, their cars, and everything they had built in their home of 21 years. They are still trying to clean out the home, cope with the mold and beginning to experience some health issues.
Family 3
An old retired couple in their 70's who were lucky to only lose two thirds of their possessions, but still need to deal with mold and rebuild their home. The biggest difficulty is that he is still recovering from a stroke from three weeks ago and she has a debilitating illness, dermatomyositis.
Family 4
And worst of all, a single mother of three whose home went up in flames caused by the flood and not only lost all her possessions and their family dog, but who was still grieving the brutal rape and murder of her 15 year old daughter from a year ago.
We are pledging $10,000 of our own money along with personal donations, but this will not be enough to cover everything needed. We have already helped with the downpayment of a car, purchased $1,000 in cleaning supplies, donated over $5000 in clothes, $500 in kitchen items, but obviously have a ways to go!
If you have any of the items listed below, have any gift cards, or are willing to donate money towards this cause, any help is MUCH appreciated. Also appreciated would be to send loving messages, cards and that personal touch to let them know they are being thought of by strangers. If you feel compelled to do so; please email me and I will let you know how you can do so.
Please know that any money will not be handed over directly to families but instead will be used to purchase items listed below or to purchase gift cards for Lowes, Home Depot, Marshalls, Costco, Target, Walmart. A photo of everything purchased will also be taken and documented for you to continue to follow this story and see the progress throughout the next several months.
