help 3 black women escape abuse and unstable homes

Hello.

First off let me start by saying I never thought I would be making one of these. My name is Selena and unfortunately me and my friend Iyanna have endured some pretty unfortunate circumstances. We need some help for rent and the costs of moving out. We’re college students so it’s going to be a struggle to support ourselves but anything helps.

I have a had a turbulent relationship with my mother, who I currently live with, for the past few years. I have struggled with mental health issues and when I confronted her about her contribution to some of my negative feelings I was met with no remorse. She has gone as far to laugh in my face, tell me that I am purposely victimizing myself, brush off or even get annoyed at my mention of suicidal thoughts due to her actions. She has told me things like I disgust her and make her want to kill herself. She has also done things like throw a glass at me. She broke my phone that I paid for because she didn’t like my attitude. She does these things without apology. It has come to the point where it’s not about whether we love each other, but more that the best thing for us would be distance at this time.

My friend Iyanna has also endured many issues in her home, primarily due to her abusive stepfather. He is emotionally and verbally abusive with Iyanna, her mother, and sister and has random fits of rage. This has caused a lot of fear and anxiety and negative feelings from Iyanna’s little sister, and Iyanna has had to take the role of caretaker and step between them, because her mother refuses to get rid of that man. Her mother has also leaned on Iyanna financially more than once, using THOUSANDS of dollars of her student refunds to pay bills and has not paid her back. One of these loans she gave to her mother is the reason Iyanna wasn’t able to get campus housing last year. Now Iyanna lives with her grandparents and uncle, who has put her and them at significant risk of getting the coronavirus multiple times, as well as inviting people into their home off the street, including a drug addict who overdosed in their home, garnering attention from law enforcement officials.

Samiah is the third of us and she suffered an injury on her arm when she was younger, leaving her with a permanent and extremely rare  disability. Only a few hundred people in the world face this ailment. Her right arm is stuck at a 90 degree angle. Due to the lack of free motion, Samiah has struggled to make income in many of the labor jobs that are offered to students and young adults. She is working diligently in less hands-on fields, and is even an entrepreneur, but has not yet found a stable income that will fit her physical needs.

At the end of the day, we have decided the best thing for us is to remove ourselves from these unstable homes and get our own place in this new year. Again anything helps. If you’re part of the Howard community please help some fellow Bison out. Thank you!!
