Help Olivia Trevino with her BRAIN SURGERY

Don protégé
Our daughter Olivia Trevino will be having open brain surgery (Craniectomy) due to a very serious and dangerous condition/illness called  Chiari Malformation. Chiari Malformation: congenital neurological disorder. It causes the brain to fall to the back of the skull and put pressure on the spinal cord, and it affects people in many different ways. Olivia has a 11 MM herniation of the cerebellum. There is No Cure.

Olivia has been suffering and living with this condition for two years now. Olivia  continues to go through a great deal of pain, constant hospital visits, MIRs, and so many procedures throughout this time. No child should need to go through what she has been through and what she will continue to go through. On top of the up coming surgery, Olivia will need to be closely monitored for many years to come to ensure that any leaks or slippage  which can cause severe complications, or fatality. The hospital will be a second home to Olivia. In addition to this, due to the severe brain slippage, this affects speech, behavior, and can have impact on other developmental areas. As a result she will need to be closely monitored.

Please help support the family as they have had significant out-of-pocket expenses throughout this past year, including taking unpaid time off work in order to attend to and take care of Olivia.  Any help will try and offset their growing medical and related expenses so that they can continue to just focus on Olivia and her recovery. The family will be going through a lot of significant out-of-pocket expenses while they are away from home for surgery such as hotel, transportation, meals, as well as foreseeable and unforeseeable future related Chiari Malformation treatments, recovery, monitoring, and improvement due to this very serious condition. We need to stand together and support the family as this is very stressful for them.

Thank you for your consideration in contributing towards Olivia's surgery related expenses, monitoring and medical assistance; any level of contribution will be deeply appreciated and go a long way. Please keep the family in your prayers.

How this all started:

On October 7, 2019, Olivia , 8 years old girl, fell backwards off the merry-go-round at school while playing and hit her head on the ground. She started to vomit and didn’t move from the ground. Her parents rushed her to the Hendricks Hospital. Worried that she would have a concussion thinking this is the worst-case scenario.

This was just the beginning. After several visits to 5 different doctors over the course of two years all while Olivia suffered in daily pain. They were finally referred to TSRH where they ordered an MIR. What was supposed to be a 2 hour MIR turned into a 5 hour MIR. Immediately this raised a red flag.

This image haunts us every day, the scariest words a parent can ever hear about their child! To hear those words as a parent is so tough. To not be able to do anything except let the tears go down your face as you wait to wake up, wishing it is a bad nightmare while hoping and waiting for the doctors to give you any news.

After the procedure the doctors told the parents that, Olivia had Chiari Malformation. Chiari is a congenital neurological disorder. It causes the brain to fall to the back of the skull and put pressure on the spinal cord, and it affects people in many different ways.

The recovery will be very long and slow and assuming everything goes well, Olivia will need to be closely monitored after the surgery. The family needs a lot of prayers to find peace and comfort during this time. Their lives have been turned upside down.

Olivia is not allowed to play any activities that involves any risk of falling or causing injury to the brain. How do you tell a child that she can’t go to recess, or can’t do activities and sports like her friends and like everyone else forever? Olivia will need to do multiple MIRs and imaging for the rest of her life which involves general anesthetic, in-tubation and many many hospital visits.

Olivia will need to be closely monitored with 24/7 care and supervision including Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, educational and medical expenses, activities for development, unpaid tests and genetic testing, and many more expenses. Thank you for your consideration in contributing towards Olivia's  Surgery expenses, life-long monitoring and medical assistance; any level of contribution will be deeply appreciated.
