Hector Foundation Second Anniversary

Only one in every 100 Haitian students has a university education. The few who complete a college degree often struggle to find employment, let alone those who don’t. At the Hector Foundation, our goal is to close this gap. We believe that education is the great equalizer in making Haiti a country for all.

 

My name is Wilhem Hector, the president and co-founder of the Hector Foundation. I have organized this fundraiser to support our second-anniversary fundraising campaign.

 

We organize an annual summer program for junior and senior Haitian high school students. In our program, students engage in multiple activities, including professional career development workshops and discussions on topics of global significance ranging from sustainable development to discrimination. We create a nurturing environment whereby our students network with plenty of successful Haitian professionals. Upon completion of our program, students are better equipped to apply to universities in Haiti or abroad, to pursue other academic or professional endeavors thanks to the relationships they made, and the knowledge they acquired.

 

Since our founding two years ago, we have granted 40 scholarships to cover participation fees and supported the admission of a dozen students to prestigious academic programs in Haiti, Germany, Canada, and the United States. We are incredibly proud of our achievements so far, yet so many Haitians still lack a college education or any hope of social mobility. This is why we are launching a fundraising campaign to double the number of students we can sponsor in the coming years.

 

We hope to offer better opportunities to twice the participants we have been able to accept so far. The funds will go towards:

- purchasing 20 additional electronic tablets,

- purchasing 20 additional routers with and internet plans,

- purchasing 20 additional power banks (to make up for widespread power outage in Haiti)

  other miscellaneous fees related to delivery, transportation, certificates, and additional programming events.
