Heather's Camp is a private, not-for-profit organization. We are committed to providing youth who are blind or visually impaired an outdoor camping experience so they may benefit from increased self-confidence, new friendships, outdoor adventure, music, fun and laughter while increasing emotional growth and support.
Your donation will help sponsor a child to attend our camp, to be held June 1-3, 2018 in the splendor of the Rocky Mountain National Park. Many of our kids have costly medical bills or difficult financial situations and although it costs almost $500 per camper to attend, no child is ever turned away.
By sponsoring a camper, your donation will be used toward funding the camp, including all activities, food and housing for the weekend. All Heather's Camp staff are volunteers, including the counselors. The average ratio is at or near 1:1 for the safety of the youth who attend. Some of our activities include beep archery, a ropes course, ziplining, swimming and other experiences the kids might not ever get the chance to do unless they come to Heather's Camp. We are the only camp for blind or visually impaired youth in the state of Colorado that is just for fun, pure fun. We do not offer an educational component. We want the kids to just be kids and experience all that the great outdoors has to offer.
Heather's Camp was established in 2001 in Kansas to honor the memory of Heather Muller, a member of Delta Gamma from Wichita State University. Currently in its 17th year, this fundraiser is to further carry on the initial dream of establishing a second Heather's Camp in Colorado.
Heather's Camp Colorado was established in 2017 with 25 blind or visually impaired youth enjoying a weekend in the snow. And now, with YOUR help, we can make this year even bigger and better than before.
