Heather's Transplant Recovery

Heather's journey for a healthy liver began in September 2019.  With multiple hospital and doctor visits, it was determined that Heather had cirrhosis of the liver from an uncertain cause (likely an autoimmune disorder). Over the past months, she has had fluid drained from the abdomen on multiple occasions to relieve her from some of the pain. Upon a visit with specialists at Shands Hospital, it was determined that Heather needed a transplant immediately.  On Sunday, March 15 Heather received a new liver. She will be in recovery at the hospital for 2-3 weeks and then months of recovery at home. The timeline has been quicker than expected, and the family has had little time to prepare for what lies ahead.
