Heather Sorenson's Album Project

THE WHY
Nothing in my life has been normal, including my career. God has gone before me, created paths, and gently pushed me through doors I didn’t even know existed. God has recently opened another door to work with an amazing producer, and I’m so excited to record this new album! Music speaks the words we are sometimes afraid to say. It teaches us things we might otherwise miss. It provides us with a unique prayer form to communicate with God. I have been called to write music, and more specifically, to walk through this new door in creating this album!

THE WHAT
This album project was initiated by producer/audio engineer Todd Whitelock, recipient of many Grammy and Tony Awards, and engineer to celebrities world-wide including Wynton Marsalis, Bette Midler, Josh Groban, Yo-Yo Ma, Harry Connick, Jr., Kristin Chenoweth, Sting, Willie Nelson, Renee Fleming, Itzhak Perlman, Isaac Stern, the Boston Pops, the Metropolitan Opera, many Broadway Shows, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and many others. He’s at the top of his industry - and he’s also up for four more Grammys this season!

Todd has generously gifted his time and talents to this project, which is unbelievable, and for which I am incredibly grateful! There are SO many other heavy costs involved in a recording, however: studio time, back-up musicians, as well as MANY other production costs. The album is being recorded at Luminous Sound Studios in Dallas, TX. The album will be both vocal and instrumental, and I’m bringing in some of my favorite musicians to help me record!

THE $$$
High-quality recordings are incredibly expensive to produce. Crowd-funding was not even on my radar (who wants to ask fordonations?!), until seeking counsel with several very wise friends in the industry. Each one strongly encouraged this path. The goal of $10,000 is a very conservative goal for a project like this, and I would feel so blessed to meet that. Any money given beyond this goal will still be used for the expenses incurred in creating this album.

FAQ
Q: Why is my publisher not funding this album like my other projects?
A: Hal Leonard is primarily a print-music publisher.  They are supportive of my pursuing this project however, and have already claimed the rights to publish the accompanying print music folio after the recording is finished.

Q: When will the album be recorded?
A: The album will be recorded in March, with an anticipated Fall release date. The plan is to distribute the album through hard copies as well as digital platforms (itunes, etc.), giving this album a wider distribution than previous projects.

Q: What will be on the album?
A: Well, some of that is a surprise! Original songs, arrangements of songs you may have heard, some instrumental, some vocal, singer/song-writer, classic Heather-style, whatever that is…. Many, many of you have asked about my new song “Let Me Walk You Home.” YES, this will be included on this album!

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Because I believe that when God directs, He has a specific purpose. I’ve learned that none of this is about me: my music, my career, this album….nothing. People often tell me that my music connects and ministers to those who are struggling or broken, and I suspect that may be God’s purpose in this album. Or maybe He has another plan for this. But if He has brought me to this new door, then He has a purpose. And so I will embrace this project in faith, and I’d love to have you join me!
