Heartworm Treatment for two Beagles

These two hunter Beagles, that I have named Houdini and Copperfield, were found abandoned wandering inside our workplace fence where we park the 18 wheelers. They were very thin. I placed FB and craigslist posts to find their owner. A hunter messaged me and said this was the last week of hunting season. The hunter probably abandoned them because they didn’t hunt well and he didn’t want to spend to feed them in the off season. I took them to the KyHumane society clinic. They have heart worms. The lemon beagle is having breathing issues. I tried finding them a family but no one is willing to take them with heart worms. They have had a life without any veterinary care according to the vet. The tricolor has a rotten tooth that needs to come out.
The funds will be used to pay for the heartworm treatments first. I have called five vets for pricing. Each treatment costs $500. It will costs between $1500-$2000 for the treatments excluding any complications. Each treatment requires an overnight stay. With my work travel schedule, they may need to be boarded several days before I can pick them up. I have a 15 yo neighbor taking care of them now when I am working out of town. If complications arise, they would need to be boarded at the vet since this would be more than my neighbor would be able to handle.
After their heartworm treatments, I would use the funds to remove Houdini’s rotten toothache and to get them both fixed. In addition to their heartworm preventative medicine and flea/tick medicine.
If there was any remaining, the funds would cover the costs of their food and treats.
I have absorbed the approximate $500 cost to take them to the vet, purchase their intestinal worm meds and flea/tick meds, feed them, buy them treats and two dog houses and supplies. I can continue for the time being to do this but I cannot afford the heartworm treatment.
This heartworm treatment needs to happen as soon as possible, especially for Copperfield. I believe these heart worms are at an advanced stage and will need the full allotment of treatments to save their lives.
These boys are sweet, and precious. They have been a challenge because they are Beagles. Houdini has escaped the fence more than a few times. Copperfield was too weak to care about trying to get out of the fence until recently. He is perking up and his personality is coming out. Houdini has to have a six foot leash on when he goes out into my backyard. I attached three empty milk jugs to the end of it. Just in case, he finds a new way out, the milk jugs catch him inside the fence. Houdini came with a curiosity to investigate everything. He is a sweet boy that wants to live his life to the fullest in spite of a fence keeping him in. Copperfield stays close. He is the introvert of the pair. When Houdini pulls his shenanigans, it is Copperfield that sounds the alarm that Houdini is out again. I think I have all of the fence holes blocked until Houdini finds another. Copperfield has substantially fatten up since he has been here. He took awhile to warm up to me. Now he is right next to Houdini for pets, scratches and attention. They are loving, funny, curiously sweet dogs that deserve a second chance with a wonderful family.
There is a helplessness that I feel because I can’t fix this by myself. These two boys need a team of donors to make them healthy. I would be very appreciative for you to join our team and help me in saving Houdini and Copperfield. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
