Hi! I'm Adonia, and I help run Heartland Academy, an Acton Affiliate in Denver Colorado. After an exciting, challenging, foundational first year, our learners have returned and launched into year two!
Thanks to dozens of generous donors (and the hard work of many), Heartland hit the ground running. Each guide, parent, and amazing young person quickly realized this school was entirely different from anything we'd ever done before! But the word on the street is that... it works! Here are just a couple of our 5 star Google reviews:
"I'm so thankful our family found Heartland! After trying both public school and homeschool, this model of education was exactly what my kids needed! We love the whole-person growth emphasis at Heartland and I've loved seeing my kids not only have FUN as they learn, but to also to start taking ownership of their education in a way they never have before. As a parent, sometimes this means letting go and allowing them to fail, but it's been awesome to watch them then go deep and find their own inner motivation and stretch beyond their limits. I've especially seen my (generally shy) younger daughter come out of her shell and show leadership and courage as the community at Heartland has made it a safe place to make mistakes, grow, and flourish. Thankful for this school!"
"After having my son 6 years in public and charter schools with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in speech and then homeschooling for 2 years, I found Heartland Academy to be the place that took his ability and willingness to learn to new heights I never thought was possible in such a short time.
His desire to want to do his work and advance is amazing to see. He's been held back twice and was never really motivated to learn. This school year has made such a huge difference. There's nothing better than seeing your child willingly engaged and focused on advancing in his studies. Thank you Heartland!!!"
Where we stand today is lightyears ahead of where we started last year. As we grow and develop, there are a few things that would help us on our journey:
- Some new supplies! We could really use a storage shed to house our materials when we are not using them. And.. a new rug for our Elementary Studio.
- Scholarship money! Several Ukrainian families have moved/are moving to our community in Colorado. They have a lot of interest in our school, and we would love to have them! But they could use a little financial assistance for tuition while they complete the immigration process and find jobs.
With $3000 we will be able to get our major supplies and offer one significant scholarship. If we surpass $3000 we will be able to offer more and greater scholarships as needed. If we are able to offer scholarships to all Ukrainian families who apply, then any additional funds will be reserved as scholarships for families who could really benefit from Heartland but need some financial assistance.
Thank you so much for your support and consideration!
