HEART SURGERY FOR LITTLE JOSIE

Donation protected
Star-Mar Rescue received a call from a vet's office saying that an 8 week old Shih Tzu puppy was dropped off, not able to be sold, due to a the most common of congenital heart defects called Patent Ductus Arteriosus, (PDA) PDA is the failure of a large blood vessel, the ductus arteriosus, to close just after birth.  In the fetus, this vessel runs from the aorta to the pulmonary artery and allows blood to bypass the lungs which are not used in the uterus.

Fortunately, PDA has an operative success greater than 90 percent, even in the smallest dogs, and the prognosis is excellent for a normal life if surgery is completed early.

Josie is only 8 weeks old.  She is sweet and cuddly and playful with no idea that her life was hanging in the balance.  Star-Mar Rescue has taken her in and hopes to raise the money to do the surgery that will allow her to live a full life.

Josie's surgery will be done at Med Vets in Akron, OH by a certified cardiologist.  We will have her preliminary appointment the first week in January, 2018, and hopefully be able to do her surgery shortly after that.

Star-Mar Rescue is a dog rescue organization in OH. established in 2013.   We are registered with the Ohio Department of Agriculture as required by law. We are Emergency Placement Partners for the Humane Society of the United States and work for animal welfare legislation.

Thank you for helping save Josie's life.  Together we can do this!

We will adjust this goal figure up or down (hopefully down) as we get Josie's work-up done and learn more about her surgical needs.
