After a long mental battle with myself and some good advice from a friend, I have decided to share my story and confess I need help. I am a nurse who injured by back at work and needed immediate surgery to repair two herniated disks with fragmented bone on my spine last month. Four days after being discharged from the hospital my employer made the decision to terminate me three days before my one year anniversary where I then would have received my PTO (paid time off) benefits and one month before I could sign up for full benefits. I received workman’s compensation benefits to cover the medical cost of my work injury but that, too, was terminated as I missed appointments while in the hospital. I have sought legal counsel regarding my work situation but still unable to work more than a month after surgery. No workman’s compensation also means no physical therapy to my left leg and foot which sustained significant nerve damage. It will be a longer recovery now because I have to do excercises by myself to keep my muscles in working order as best as I can. Normally recovery was up to 10 weeks with actually physical therapists helping me but I fear it will be longer now. I am not fully mobile yet and can’t work until I am 100%. I’m the meantime, bills are still coming in and with me being the full financial provider for the house while my mother lives with me, I just need help for the next couple of months. I have run out of alternatives and this is my last resort. Please help in anyway you can and if you cannot please share with a friend. Thank you and may God bless you.
