Heart transplant for Dana Mulliniks

Donation protected

Dana Mulliniks
a 59 year old father of 3 children and Papa to 7 grandchildren. He graduated from Monache High School in 1975. He is a Psychiatric Technician at Porterville Developmental Center.
Around February he started experiencing shortness of breath. He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with COPD and respiratory problems, an inhaler was prescribed and told to lose weight.
Then he developed a bad cough, gagging, vomiting, feet and ankle edema, and shortness of breath increased. He went to emergency dept. and was admitted. They diagnosed him with COPD, CHF, hypertension and Diabetes-type 2. Then discharged home . Within a very short period of time he was back in ED. He was admitted and more test ran. He was transferred to ICU and was told he needed a heart transplant.  A shocking prognosis! He was retaining fluid (feet, ankles, abdomen) and his heart was only functioning at 10%. Fluid was removed several times. Then transferred to Kaweah Delta and from there he was transferred to UCLA via ambulance.
A team of doctors at UCLA concur that he does need a heart transplant with diagnosis of Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy.
He is home now, but since March has been in and out of hospitals. With medications, diet, removing fluid, his heart function has improved slightly. UCLA doctor sent him home with a portable defibrillator that he wears constantly.
*****In order to be considered for a heart transplant you must have a plan and care providers that can stay with him 24/7.  Our daughters will be filling the role of caregiver for their dad when the time gets closer.
Krista has 2 high school kids and Ashley has 3 yr. old twins. This is going to be a difficult transition for everyone.
Krista and Ashley must sign a contract with UCLA stating they are committed to care for their dad and have a place to stay pre and 3 months post transplant and must be close to UCLA.
The social worker gave them list of hotels and apartments close to UCLA, which are very expensive.
****We are doing the Go fund me  to help with housing,  food or other expenses that might occur during his pre and post transplant surgery.   Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated!   Nothing is too small. Whether you can give or not, please pray for guidance for the doctors and peace and comfort to Dana and his family. We never know what we might have to endure in this life...
Thank you!

My name is Lori Cobbs Boone. Dana is my ex-husband and we have 3 kids and 7 grandkids together.  Our kids will be going to visit and stay with him for approximately 3 months post surgery. The funds will go toward lodging, food, gas and any other expenses that might occur.   Since  started the campaign I opened up a special account just for Go Fund Me donations.  When Dana was home from the hospital and  felt like it we went to the bank and put him on the account.
hope this clarifies any details that  left out in my story.
Thank you, Lori
